AIBU to wonder what the actual fuck they have done to creme eggs?

I mean, first world problems and all that, but why have they ruined creme eggs? Just had one and the chocolate was rank (DH said this was a big thing a few years ago that Cadbury changed the chocolate to make it cheaper and it doesn't taste like dairy milk any more but this clearly passed me by) and the filling was... kinda chewy. I mean, is nothing sacred? Fucking Brexit fucking up our creme eggs.

Cadbury chocolate has been rank for years!

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 28/03/2019 09:20

Haven't had a Creme Egg for years as the last one I had was just disgusting! I remember when they came in three different foil wrappers - red, blue and green - and the white filling was creamy whilst the yellow was delicious fondant!

I also loved toffee and mallow eggs - what happened to them??

bibliomania · 28/03/2019 09:23

Agree with others that at least it's reduced my snacking. Sorry to hear that the Lindt Lindor balls have palm oil - will have to cut them off the list. Another Aldi fan here, although you have to check the labels if you want to avoid palm oil. They have plenty of good chocolate without palm oil, but the ones with gooey fillings have it.

Walkthroughthefire · 28/03/2019 09:24

@M0reginplease, I thought your brexit quip was amusing Smile

zoellafortitude · 28/03/2019 09:29

Nasty chocolate is helping my diet no end. I am the kind of person who cannot be left alone in the house with chocolate. So when I do my online shopping, I buy Galaxy (which I find vile) for DH and no matter how bad my cravings are, I am not the slightest bit tempted Grin

AnnaNutherThing · 28/03/2019 09:29

Aldi Choceur bars are cheaper than the Roser Moth range but taste good enough imo: Belgian chocolate so no veg oil at all in solid bars.

laurG · 28/03/2019 09:34

I’ve just forwarded this conversation to Cadbury via their customer service. They should know how crap they’ve become.

I also think mini eggs are odd too. Not as crunchy. Such a loss of a British institution. Shameful to sell out to cheapo American food company. Founders would be turning in their graves.

Nquartz · 28/03/2019 09:35

I feel the same about double & dinky deckers, most disappointing.

On the plus side I eat less chocolate nowadays!

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 09:36

Has anyone tried Iceland's own brand chocolate?

AnnaNutherThing · 28/03/2019 09:38

LaurG they must know.

AnnaNutherThing · 28/03/2019 09:40

I will keep an eye out for Love Cocoa, so thanks to Reaa on this thread.

MNSDKHheroines · 28/03/2019 09:43

Smarties orange mini eggs are a new snack chocolate find. There is some palm oil but the first listed oil is mango kernel.

Reaa · 28/03/2019 09:44

AnnaNutherThing
Love Cocoa is owned by James Cadbury, I just wish they would do more 'everyday grab from the shelf bars' in the lower price range category.

CookPassBabtridge · 28/03/2019 09:49

Creme eggs were a magical treat when Inwas a child and it's not iust rose tinted glasses. The smell of the chocolate through the foil, the creaminess, and then the oozy filling. It's sad when they change stuff for the worse.

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 09:53

Lovecocoa chocolate is really lovely, but it's expensive to buy just the odd bar as a treat because of the delivery charge.
I don't want to buy too many bars - I'll eat it all!

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 09:53

I wish lovecocoa did creme eggs - they would be amazing!

ThisCoolBean · 28/03/2019 09:53

What I don’t understand is surely Kraft have noticed a drop off in sales since changing the recipe. Which surely defeats the object if they’re trying to be more profitable?
I used to be a complete chocoholic. I very rarely eat chocolate now as it’s so gross.
Even my DC turn their noses up at Cadbury’s chocolate and won’t eat it as they can’t stand it. They’ll only eat Lindt now.

keepingbees · 28/03/2019 09:54

Maltesers have gone the same way. Always loved them but can't eat them anymore they're disgusting. First noticed it a couple of years ago when I sat down with a Malteser Easter egg as a treat and it was rank, I even checked it was in date!

iwantatattoo · 28/03/2019 09:55

Revels are still nice.

MissionItsPossible · 28/03/2019 10:20

No Deal is better than bad Cadbury's cream eggs.

CookPassBabtridge · 28/03/2019 10:22

I've noticed the same with maltesers. I remember opening a bag pf them and the smell of the chocolate hitting you.. it was even better with a box.

Imacliche · 28/03/2019 10:25

I sat and ate 3 in a row last night
#sorrynotsorry
Still taste good to me

bellabasset · 28/03/2019 10:30

If its Cadburys I don't buy it, used to love those thick squares of dairy milk which Mum used to get a sharp knife and almost grate to go over puddings. Everything seems too sweet.

Lidl and Aldi choc is great. I buy locally made chocolate for Xmas and presents.

Wrybread · 28/03/2019 10:40

My source admits there's palm oil. But apparently there's been palm oil in them for years? It's when they tried to change the recipe about 5 years ago that they got loads of complaints.

Palm oil, shea butter etc just used to be listed as vegetable oil.
