To ask if I've ruined my laptop?

Water got into the left side of my MacBook. I immediately turned it upside down (after swearing) and have left it that way near a warm place. Not a lot of water got it but it was on standby and it won't turn on now.

How long before I will know for sure? Before I can try again?

And what's the likelihood of saving the data in the event the laptop is dead?

I foresee an expensive day ahead Sad

Don't try turning it on, you'll fry the circuitry, you have to ensure it dries out, usually leaving it 3 to 4 days in a warm well ventilated area open and upside down, and don't be tempted to just check it until then.

If the hard drive is ok your data will be fine and can be retrieved.

Many years ago I spilt squash on an Acorn Electron. It got rinsed in the shower and lived in the airing cupboard for weeks. A much simpler computer though with no moving parts.

You probably need to leave it a few days to dry at least. Can you take the battery out at all?

Honestly though? I think I'd be checking my contents insurance...

Also put it in rice, I do appreciate it's a lot of rice, but it's great.

Sorry posted too soon, if it was water you may have a chance and hopefully you turned it off immediately? Recovery options depend on what model it is? What year? Keep up hope, same thing happened one I had and after 96 hours, I heard the beautiful chime
