An old boyfriends dad used to play this song so often back in the 80s that I can almost recall it word for word but can I find mention of it on google? No! Can you?
No idea who it's by. It's a blues type country song. Here's some of the lyrics - what I can recall - hand typed as I can't bloody find them to copy and paste of course ..
Sitting with my guitar singin the blues,
Heard the postman coming, he was bringing bad news,
Gotta get out that civilian rut, there's a vacant bed awaiting in the army hut,
I'm a man of few words so I didn't say much. I just fainted.
When I came to, I told mum and dad
But they didn't take it so very bad,
Just remember one thing son and you'll get by,
Keep your boots polished and your powder dry
Can't remember much else. A line that says ' I went up and down and round and round, til the blood in my head was beginning to pound and I was thinking of shooting myself. Or the sergeant'
Anyone know where I can look? I want to listen to it again!
