I know people like to talk negatively about OFSTED. But I worked with children before OFSTED existed, and for a few years afterwards. I worked for the Local Authority, so it was not a slipshod run service, people cared about the quality. But we still had higher ratios and poorer buildings that were allowed after OFSTED.
I was then responsible for some of the implementation of OFSTED, and even some of the very expensive private nurseries at the time were struggling to meet the very basic standards introduced.
Yes, I know it made childcare more expensive, but it also introduced basic quality standards that just did not exist before.
