So, a couple go to bed at the same time most nights, together, and usually watch 30-60 mins of TV in bed before turning it off and going to sleep.

In general, person A likes this set up, but person B doesn't particularly.

Tonight, person B said they feel tired, and wanted to not watch TV. Person A wants to watch it as usual.

Who is BU in this scenario?

My dh goes to sleep before me so I browse (Mumsnet) on my iPad away fr9m him with the volume off, I wouldn't dream of doing anything that kept him awake.

BarbedBloom · 27/03/2019 08:21

I can’t sleep without background noise, it is anxiety related, but I have one of those pillows where only I can hear my audio book or music as anything else would be unreasonable. We do have a tv in the bedroom as I have a chronic condition and sometimes can’t make it to the living room, but it goes off around an hour before bed anyway. Your H is being unreasonable in this case as the person wanting to sleep trumps the one wanting to watch tv or do something noisy in the bedroom

What 'reason' can you have for being a pain?

And does he insist you have to go to bed at the same time?

caughtinanet · 27/03/2019 08:27

What would be a valid reason to act as he did?

I can't see how it could be justified

GabsAlot · 27/03/2019 08:40

so u will end up on a spare sofa incase it happens again instead of him saying he wont watch tv anymore-ok then

ReadingInReading · 27/03/2019 08:42

Both are unreasonable for having a TV in the bedroom in the first place.

Rainstopped · 27/03/2019 09:02

As told to me by a sleep hygienist - bed is only for sleep and sex !!

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 27/03/2019 09:35

Some people need silence, some people need background noise to sleep, neither is unreasonable. The issue comes with seeking the noise from a TV which emits blue light and can disrupt sleep for some. Is there a compromise to be had with a low level radio/podcast? Person B gets darkness, person A gets some noise and a podcast is easier to tune out than the TV, especially if the device is on person As side of the bed

iPad with headphones is a good compromise
