To outsource bloody PowerPoint shit to someone else who can do it?

New job, bloody love it BUT there is loads to do on PowerPoint and I hate it. They are going to provide me training (which I've had in another job before and I'm still crap) but basically I hate PowerPoint it's like death by 1000 cuts.
I'm seriously considering looking at outsourcing it to someone who can do it. They get paid and I get rid of the floating PowerPoint turd

No, YNBU. I'm the same with Excel which is the worse programme known to Man IMO.

startingtolooklikemother · 26/03/2019 13:27

Yes excel is a right tosser, I'm a fan of Visio but everything else can bugger off.
Honestly if there is a MN that wants some adhoc PowerPoint stuff then please shout Grin

Honestly? I'm so old I just feign total ignorance (rather than utter indifference and unwillingness to learn) and have people scurrying about to do it for me. That said, I'm very quick to take over the parts of a project that matter more to me, so I'm not a complete dead weight.

springbreak3 · 26/03/2019 13:30

Not a fan of PP, and also hate excel. I have always struggled with it, and I thought it was just me being thick. Sad Blush

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/03/2019 13:33

I think Power point and Excel are so ubiquitous that have to just buckle down and learn to do what you need.

(And anyone who doesn't want to get grips with PP and Excel had better never make comments about an older person who doesn't want to do smartphones or on-line banking!)

ShartGoblin · 26/03/2019 13:33

If you hate it that much just do your work in a program you do like & use the snipping tool to copy it as an image and just paste it into a slide. No-one uses transitions these days anyway so it will go unnoticed most of the time.

TiggeryBear · 26/03/2019 13:39

I used to love PowerPoint in secondary school but I've never had to use it in the workplace.
Excel, however, I bloody love it!!!

BrieAndChilli · 26/03/2019 13:46

im cant see what is so bad about powerpoint? i love excel and as an admin/finance person i have to use it loads and love a good formula!

on the other hand ive never really got to grips with Access!

Wallsbangers · 26/03/2019 13:48

I love PowerPoint! So many ways to make words appear!

startingtolooklikemother · 26/03/2019 14:00

So just saying if I wanted to outsource it, how would I go about it?
Asking for a friend obviously 🙄

YABU it's part of your job you are supposed to do. Don't go for the job if you can't/ won't do it.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2019 14:05

Oooj I LOVE POWERPOINT. Outsource to MEEEEEE

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2019 14:07

Also the highlight of wedding planning was my excel spreadsheet

rookiemere · 26/03/2019 14:08

I'd think you were weird if you paid someone else to do part of your job.

Things you can do to make life easier. Lots of powerpoint decks are suggestive of an organisation somewhat crippled by the desire to present and get sign off for things. Suggest that decks are cut out or streamlined to make the organisation more focused on customer deliverables ( unless of course the slides are for customers)

I rarely create anything from scratch. Ask people to share a deck where they think the format looks good and basically just customise that. Gets easier the more you do it.

FineFanks · 26/03/2019 14:17

What do you struggle with, OP?

Excel, I can understand because of the formulas, but genuinely can't understand what would be tricky about using Powerpoint?

hairychinsrus · 26/03/2019 15:01

I'm dyslexic and struggle with the articulation, with PowerPoint it's making sure the message is clear as well as professional looking.

FineFanks · 26/03/2019 16:04

@startingtolooklikemother If you did want to outsource it, you can find someone on People Per Hour.

But I would look into some training if I were you. It's a really simple program to use.

CheezerGoode · 26/03/2019 16:07

Me me! I love it! Grin
Or if you're in London, I can do some training 1:1...?

Violetroselily · 26/03/2019 16:08

What are you struggling with?

Slide master is your friend

FooFighter99 · 26/03/2019 16:11

I LOVE powerpoint!

I get called upon by everyone to do their presentations cos I'm so good at it, I literally make them all singing and dancing! Haha Grin

I'll do yours for you for a small fee Wink

OllyBJolly · 26/03/2019 16:11

I outsource to a marvel on People per Hour. Saves me loads of stress and I can get on with what I'm good at.

TheCanyon · 26/03/2019 16:16

Oh god i promised I'd help dd do a powerpoint for her school project, is it going to tip me over the edge? Shock

I'm pretty good with excel (accounting student).. but it did have the ability to make swear like hell. Excel for dummies saved my life.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/03/2019 17:00

Yo, I offered first!! Although I'm currently without a sodding laptop after mine selfishly died

pitterpatterbaby · 26/03/2019 20:22

Tip of the day: Find someone more junior to you that wants to progress and give it to them as a 'developmental opportunity'

SurgeHopper · 26/03/2019 20:27

Do people per hour do translation too?
