to ask of your experience of a 'thick lining of the womb'?

So I've been bleeding more or less for about 6 months (occasionally heavy like a period, occasionally clots and in between, just a low level constant light bleeding).

Was referred for an US (Trans abdominal and trans vaginal) which I've had, where the sonographer said that 'there is nothing physically wrong - no mass, no polyps, no fibroids'. I asked was cervix ok and she said yes, everything is fine, it's just the lining of the womb is thick. I asked her what that means and she said it should clear out after a period and that perhaps it was hormonal.

Anyway tonight, not sure why, but bleeding is ongoing and haven't actually heard anything, so I googled 'thick lining of the womb' and managed to find the charity called Eve - which deals with womb cancer.

As you can gather, at 2am in the morning, it's not really the best to be googling!

So, given the scan and that no mass was shown (I assumed she was referring to fibroids or something), does that mean I have the all clear?

Haven't heard a think back, but I suppose it was only about 2 weeks ago. The sonographer had said at the time that they'd probably call me back in 5-6 weeks.

So now I'm thinking - wtaf? The other thing is that the blood stinks to the high heavens. Utterly stink. I'm in constant mild pain, but nothing remotely worth writing home about on the pain scale - just constant pain really.

AIBU to ask you to tell me that you've had similar and that all was good?

I'm not prescribed iron. They've never mentioned it in any blood tests I've had - I have to have them quarterly for a different issue. So I can only presume that all is normal.
Overflow seems to have slowed down for now.
Apologies for appearing to have my shit together and then losing my shit lol. All in a days work!

No, this is not something you could ever describe as a normal smell. Up until about 2 months ago, there has never been an odour from me. But I shower, put on a pad, go to change pad, and nearly knock myself out with the smell. It's getting worse and worse and the bleeding is getting worse. So it's A&E or wait for 3 months??????????? Because I'm imagining it. I must have anxiety or something. NO. There is something blooming wrong!

If I had gone in an ambulance, I'd be lying on a trolley and they'd tell me - oh, you're not bleeding as heavily now - THERE THERE YOU NEUROTIC WOMAN. See? It was nothing to get yourself worked up about!

OP posts:
keepforgettingmyusername · 26/03/2019 23:42

Can you make your own way up to A&E OP? Get a taxi maybe? I can see why you refused an ambulance but the GP thinks you need to be seen in hospital so I think it's worth going if you can. It doesn't matter that the bleeding has slowed down for now, you have had very heavy bleeding today and it could start again during the night.

Verynice · 26/03/2019 23:45

Stupid as it is, but I'd rather be half dead and then believed, than to go in now and be shussed for being hysterical and sent home feeling like I was making a fuss about nothing. Possibly doesn't sound rational, but with the NHS, unless you're dying, you're not going to be taken seriously.

So it's go in when your symptoms are bad but not life-threatening - No Action - Go home - Die
Wait a little longer until symptoms are life-threatening - They may take action - Don't die.

God, I'm starting to think I'm sounding insane myself now, but that's the logic that's in my head.

OP posts:
Verynice · 26/03/2019 23:47

I absolutely can make my own way there and I sure as hell won't be calling blooming 111 if I need to.

OP posts:
keepforgettingmyusername · 26/03/2019 23:55

You don't sound insane, you sound very worried. Lots of people go to A&E who aren't at risk of imminent death and are admitted. I went myself with gynae issues and they admitted me and kept me in a few days for tests. Turned out to be a big cyst that was twisting my ovary. I lost the ovary but I was never near death and all the staff were still very kind.

Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:07

I almost lost my dd due to haemorrhaging - a placental abruption? So I suppose maybe this is affecting me more than it might affect a normal person. They were really lackadaisical about that too until I called in the heavy gang in my family to put 'gentle' pressure on - a lot of medical professionals in the family. It got her out alive by emergency c-section.
I know there is something wrong, but I am loathe to rock up to A&E saying 'I've had a smelly period for the past month, I'm bleeding all over the shop for the past 24 hours and have been bleeding daily for the past 6 months'. I'm sure they are going to say 'Have you seen your GP? At which point I will either screech like a lunatic or just walk back out again.

So, unless it becomes an emergency I'll just trust that Dr. Junior actually manages to get me an appointment in 2 weeks.

And in case you think me saying Dr. Junior is intended to be derogatory, it's not - There is Dr. X Senior and Dr. X Junior and then the female doctor.

Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:16

I've calmed down now. That or I'm too bloody exhausted to care lol.

Sorry, I absolutely hate being ill. I'm not a good patient at all. I'm the sort they don't want to have to deal with and sort of draw straws for as to who gets the lunatic. Grin

I just don't like things that I can't explain. You cut yourself, you bleed. Makes sense. You bang your head, you've a sore head. Gynae problems are the great unexplained to me. And nobody really gives a fuck tbh! Because it's JUST a gynae problem.

Arrrghh. Getting myself annoyed again.

OP posts:
EBearhug · 27/03/2019 00:20

unless it becomes an emergency

What do you think will make it count as an emergency? You were feeling weak earlier. If it becomes an emergency, will you be capable of getting help then? Please seek help (i.e. get to A&E) while you are able.

Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:23

I'm fine now really I think. Much ado about nothing I think!

If I start to feel faint, I will get to A&E. I've taken Nurofen and the pain is mild now.

OP posts:
BWatchWatcher · 27/03/2019 00:27

I think you should go anyhow.
Do you seriously want to do this for the next 2 weeks?
Go, make a strop.
Get it done.

Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:32

Lol, I'm actually going to give myself another hour and then see what way I am. What do I say when I rock up at reception? Hi - I've a smelly vagina?

OP posts:
Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:32

It's probably worth mentioning that I have a phobia of hospital.

OP posts:
BWatchWatcher · 27/03/2019 00:43

Say you have been flooding and feeling faint and there is a bad smell.
That’s the truth!

Verynice · 27/03/2019 00:48

I will go if I need to - pinky promise.
I just don't think I need A&E. If anything changes, I'll go - don't worry.

OP posts:
minmooch · 27/03/2019 01:12

Seriously go to A&E. This much bleeding and odour is not normal. You need to be seen. Go whilst you can rather than waiting until an ambulance is required.

ittakes2 · 27/03/2019 01:21

I am not a doctor but I had smelly light blood after a C section and it was a womb infection cured by antibiotics. I also serperately had thick womb lining and used to have very heavy periods with spectactular clotting - if they are concerned about you they will take a biopsy or do a D&C to check for cancer which they did with me and it was clear. They offered me a hysto - instead I had acupuncture and my womb lining normalised after 3 months.I think lack of sleep through my hormones out and created the thick lining.

ittakes2 · 27/03/2019 01:28

I'm sorry just read some of your other posts - I think if you have a child you need to get over your hospital phobia and go - its not normal to be bleeding all over the place with smelly blood. Its likely you just need some antibiotics but you don't want to risk anything. And yes, you do rock up to A&E or a minor injuries unit and say you are bleeding all over the place with smelly blood and they will take you seriously and not tell you you should have gone to a doctor.

Verynice · 27/03/2019 02:33

I'm fine now. I'm sure they have more to be dealing with in A&E!
Thanks though.

@VeryNice. Actually the uterine cancer turned out to be a blessing in disguise. During the hysterectomy they discovered I had an unsuspected ovarian cancer, which was caught early. Have to look for your blessings where you can😃

daydream123 · 27/03/2019 07:37

People go to A&E with cuts and scrapes and sprains. The (perfectly understandable) worry this is causing you warrants urgent care. Don't minimise what you are going through. They have a duty to examine you if you turn up there, it's unlikely they would do nothing and send you home because they need to cover their own backs. Even if they only do the swabs, an examination and another blood test, surely that's more things checked off? I definitely got my hysteroscopy quicker after going there, too.

Take care. I hope you're feeling a bit better this morning.

BWatchWatcher · 27/03/2019 08:11

I went to A&E once and there was a guy who had a sore knee, from a trip to the gym the previous week.
Seriously, go.
A friend of mine suffered like you for nearly 5 years. She ended up being hospitalized and off work for 6 months. All because of neverending periods and stupid gps.

purpleunicorns · 27/03/2019 08:17

Verynice please get yourself to the hospital or doctors today, you may need a blood transfusion as you've been bleeding so heavily. I had the exact same thing happen to me

Verynice · 27/03/2019 12:04

I'm all good today. Bleeding has slowed right down.

OP posts:
Verynice · 27/03/2019 18:49

I've realised today that I have the same issue still - it hasn't gone. It sounds stupid, but I was hoping it would go away. I'm maybe ignorant. Or stubborn. Or stupid. But I've decided to go to A&E. My A&E doesn't have phone coverage. Well A&E does, but not when you're put through to the internal area you wait to be seen.
I'm utterly terrified. And also reluctant to spend 20 quid there and back on taxis.

Remind me again why I should do this?
