To ask what is acceptable to put on social media?

I've seen a lot of threads lately asking what makes you cringe / angry etc. that is posted on social media. I agree with a lot of what's listed, I've even posted on them myself, but the list is so long that I actually wonder what you do deem acceptable to be posted on social media?

Nothing. Social media is for gimps.

SimonJT · 25/03/2019 21:14

I personally dislike things about children being put on social media, they should have the choice to have an online life when they are old enough.

My ex put a photo of us on instagram and tagged me, I didn’t realise until I was inundated with awful/creepy messages and said image was copied and posted to various fan instagrams.

I always now ask myself would I want someone to see this in ten years, before I put anything on instagram etc.

Sirzy · 25/03/2019 21:16

As long as it’s legal whatever you like. If people don’t like it they can scroll past, unfollow or unfriend.

drogon1 · 25/03/2019 21:16

@Bezalelle and yet here you are, posting on chat boards... a form of social media 🙄

OP posts:
SparklyMagpie · 25/03/2019 21:18

@Bezalelle my comment of the night 😂

Rezie · 25/03/2019 21:18

Whatever you want. Everyone has differnt pet peeves and unfollow button exists for this reason.

AnotherOneBitesTheDust · 25/03/2019 21:20

'Social media is for gimps' favourite 5 words of the day 😂

cardibach · 25/03/2019 21:20

I tend not to care what other people think about what I post. If they don’t like it they can unfriendly (some have) or just scroll past. I particularly don’t care about the opinions of people like Bezalelle who think they are far too clever and cool for social media.

Bumble1830 · 25/03/2019 21:25

As much as I agree people can put anything they want on sm, a lot of what people write does make me think.."do you think anyone cares"? Things like..
Had a lovely day meeting with mum and dad in the cafe, and then watched Sammy in the school play, now home cooking dinner and having a cuppa, ok, as a one off, but there are 2 or 3 people that do this every day...sometimes it can be just - hung the washing out and now about to hoover...ggaahhhh

spanishwife · 25/03/2019 21:26

@drogon1 chat boards couldn't be further from social media. It doesn't just mean 'internet'...

hayf · 25/03/2019 21:30

I don't like people putting things about work on social media, honestly no one is interested in your report no matter how long it took. Keep it to your professional network, otherwise it just looks to a social network like you haven't got a professional network who want to listen to you.

If you want to use social media to promote your work, set up a business page so it's clear and gives people the choice of whether or not to read it.

DannyDyersPants · 25/03/2019 21:31

I've actually unfollowed my best mate on fbook as she posts and shares some right shite. Maybe people feel same about what I post.....I don't really care! If you have a SM account then put on it what you want!

drogon1 · 25/03/2019 21:37

I should've perhaps phrased my OP as "What stuff posted on social media DOESN'T piss you off?"

I agree that much of what people put on there these days is bollocks but it seems from recent threads that people are becoming increasingly annoyed by it rather than doing what other posters suggest and just scrolling past.

OP posts:
bsc · 25/03/2019 21:39

bezalelle wins the thread! with a username that sounds like a brand of mini-pill

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 25/03/2019 21:43

I've come off all social media ( I don't class mn as social media) I got too annoyed reading everyone's crap and seeing what they had for every meal and having the perfect life, when in reality it's as mundane as mine! For a while I ended up putting the posts I hate as I got sucked in, so I stopped that but then ended up down the rabbit hole of pointless articles, like 50 things you didn't know about the Kardashians (I knew them), which then led to a 150 million things you didn't realise about useless crap you didn't care about to start with, before you know it I'd wasted nearly all my day scrolling! I've been off it all for over a year now (didn't think I'd last 2 minutes) but now you couldn't pay me to go back on any of it and I'm so much happier for it!

Sparklingbrook · 25/03/2019 21:49

Cat pictures.

Things that are funny.

SexNotJenga · 25/03/2019 21:59

social methods is for gimps

Rank hypocrisy.

CantWaitForSpring1 · 25/03/2019 22:05

My criteria for posting is pretty much the following:
A) is it funny?
B) is it interesting?
C) is it out of the ordinary?
D) would I say this to someone in real life?
E) would I mind if my boss saw this?

SapphireBattersea · 25/03/2019 22:06

Oooh interesting question op

I post all sorts and worry I’m an annoying twat on Fb but then kinda think well surely my real friends wouldn’t think that of me ?
