AIBU about Dp's tea time remark?

MoonshineWashingLine · 25/03/2019 17:55

I had just finished sorting out my dd1's meds and sat down for literally 20 seconds while the oven was preheating, when dp comes in the room and says "have you put tea on?" I replied "not yet" and he says "well don't you think you should put it on then?"
I was pissed off but didn't know what to say in front of the kids so just sighed and went off to kitchen. He then came in and said "what are we having with?" to which I replied "veg". He said "what veg" and being pissed off already I said "I don't know just some fucking veg, whatever we've got in."
To which he replied "there was no need for that, no need."
Am I being petty or is he out of order?

What exactly was he off doing inbetween bothering you?

beenhereages1 · 25/03/2019 17:56

What had your DP been doing?

ijustdontunderstandher · 25/03/2019 17:56

Yes I’d be fuming too. He can put it on himself if he’s so hungry

Happyspud · 25/03/2019 17:57

Do you really need to ask? Is he paying this maid of his?

(the lazy, entitled, sexist prick)

DawgLover · 25/03/2019 17:57

Why wasn't he starting dinner while you sorted DD?

NewIdeasToday · 25/03/2019 17:57

You sound tired but also both of you sound rude. Why not relax and treat each other with a bit more care and respect?

John470322 · 25/03/2019 17:57

He was out of order. He should have helped you.

PurpleDaisies · 25/03/2019 17:57

Why can’t he make tea?

labazsisgoingmad · 25/03/2019 17:58

why didnt you say the oven was heating up and if he was in a hurry could put in tea himself

ScreamingValenta · 25/03/2019 17:59

Any reason why he couldn't start making it if you were busy with your daughter's meds?

Hard to say if the last bit was out of order - do you quite often swear to each other and it's meaningless, or does 'the F word' signal a major row?

Bigonesmallone3 · 25/03/2019 17:59

Suggest he makes his own dinner next time

frazzledasarock · 25/03/2019 17:59

Does he always speak to you like that?

YANBU he sounds like an entitled dick.

FullOfJellyBeans · 25/03/2019 18:00

Why couldn't he put the dinner on? I think it probably boiled over as you were resentment about the first comment. I'd just address it politely next time. 'I'll put the dinner on shortly but you're welcome to get it going if you're starving'.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 25/03/2019 18:03

He could have put the tea on himself so I get why you're angry about that. But I don't get the bit about him aksing what veg you're having. If you had already started the tea he's probably just presumed you had already decided.

NoCauseRebel · 25/03/2019 18:04

Why on earth do people constantly insist on seeking validation for these petty squabbles on the internet?

Yeah, he was irritating, you swore, meh. Hardly worth a thread is it?

Iloveacurry · 25/03/2019 18:09

He’s a twat. Tell him to put the tea on.

arethereanyleftatall · 25/03/2019 18:12

Yanbu.
I would never speak to my husband like he spoke to you. Never. Likewise, he would never speak to me like that.
Unless there's a drip feed coming that you work for him as a cook, and he's a bit of a twat?

oneforthepain · 25/03/2019 18:12

Is this a regular occurrence or a one off?

Samind · 25/03/2019 18:14

I'd suggest you advise him he can sort the meds and other things out while and make tea if he likes then drop in and do the same thing. See how he feels. It would annoy me if I was doing something and making tea and I was asked questions etc about it tbh

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 25/03/2019 18:17

Unless there is a huge drip feed i.e that he has no arms then the fuck cant he start dinner. You are his wife not his bloody cook.

If he is reading this I am please to inform him that ovens do not require breasts and a vagina to work, unbelievably in the year 2019 they can be operated by someone with a penis too. Hmm

ivykaty44 · 25/03/2019 18:33

Why don’t you say after much thought you think it would be better to take turns cooking dinner. That way he’ll have far more idea of what’s going on in the kitchen, food in the fridge etc

MoonshineWashingLine · 25/03/2019 18:50

He often makes tea, we had all just got in from the shop and he was getting changed. Who was making tea hadn't been discussed. I didn't like the way he spoke to me and I was so annoyed that I felt like asking (venting) on here to see if I was right to be annoyed really.
