CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 20:48

Seriously my MIL keeps buying us car seats but then having to return them ad they're totally unsuitable. Our DC is just age 2 and we need a narrow car seat forward facing to fit in the front of our VW T4 transporter van (drivers seat then 2 narrow joined together passenger seats - no other seats) please help us?! She is so sweet to buy us seats but shes tried 3 so far totally off her own back and they are either for much older kids or babies! Thank you!!

You need to take your van along to a store and try some.

Climbingahoneytree · 24/03/2019 20:52

So buy your own? This comes across really ungrateful

moreismore · 24/03/2019 20:54

Have a look at the fb site car seat advice uk

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 20:54

We are buying our own? She was buying them and we were giving her the money, she just thought she was doing us a favour as shes retired with more free time.
Been to halfords and mothercare very unhelpful and nothing suitable "try online" the response.

Are they the same size as the middle seats in many cars? If so you'll be hard pushed to find a seat which fits properly. this recommends seats which are 43cm wide or thereabouts.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/03/2019 20:54

Also what is your child currently sitting in?

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 20:55

@moreismore looked on there, cant post anything to ask as they block posting for weeks on end apparently and when I searched there was nothing about T4s only T5s

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 20:56

Max size for the car seat about 45cm wide. Yes similar to a middle car seat. Shes currently in a maxi cosi 2 way pearl but its isofix and wide and the van doesn't have isofix.

www.madeformums.com/reviews/best-car-seats-that-fit-3-in-the-back-of-most-cars/ they are all narrow.

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 24/03/2019 20:57

Sorry, I can't make out from the description, is it a bench seat? Or two individual seats for passengers?

funnystory · 24/03/2019 20:58

Do you have an In Car Safety Centre near you? I found them really helpful and they come out and try seats in your car. When I looked in mothercare I asked for some advice and the lady didn't have a clue, just read me what information was written on the displays Hmm

Highway · 24/03/2019 21:00

At 2 your child should still be rear facing

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:00

Thanks the only one that isn't isofix is the dinio radian 5 which I understand is only for cars with a top tether? I could be wrong. Thanks for all the advice so far.

I feel your pain as a t2 owner. We’ve got the britax romer at the back as we don’t have a telescopic belt.
There is a group called vw camper chicks who are super helpful. I tried the car seat advice group and they were really unhelpful and super judgmental.

frankiefirstyear · 24/03/2019 21:01

I used a Joie Every Stage in my T5 but tbh it was a bit of a squeeze. The joy is that you can fear face for a long time this giving arm room to the shared seat user. I put the seat in the middle of the three also as this seemed to help when shutting the door the other shared seat user could close the door, then sit if that makes sense.

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:01

@highway she does rear face in our cars but there is no seat that can rear face in a t4. There is so far no seat that i can find that even fits forward facing let alone rear facing. But thanks for that!

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:02

@Espoleta what britax model do you have please? Also no idea what a telescopic belt is lol

SharkSave · 24/03/2019 21:04

We got a joie every stage rear facing in ours. Would obviously work forward facing too. We fitted it on the seat closest to the door and I could squeeze in the middle.

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:04

I think the every stage is too wide? But maybe t5 seats are wider? Didn't think we could rear face in the t4 but glad to be proven wrong. Shes very tall (as tall as 3 friends 4 year olds) so would rather forward face soon anyway.

The eclipse.
Dimensions are Dimensions: 57 x 45 x 64 cm
for the seatbelt is it a proper normal one?

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:08

Yes proper 3 point seat belt. Thanks I'll Google that one

SharkSave · 24/03/2019 21:10

The in car safety centre are brilliant, if you aren't close enough to visit them they will advise over the phone. I suggest trying them, they'll talk you through your options

CheekyChappy710 · 24/03/2019 21:16

Thanks Shark I'll Google them

www.britax-roemer.co.uk/fitfinder

when i used this fit finder with the details of the car the maxway and maxway plus showed as fitting the front left hand seat. these are rear facing seats. i think the link will show the form to fill out again rather than the results.
