AIBU to quit my job?

I just can't face going in. Each week somehow manages to be worse than the previous.

WIBU to just hand in my notice without a job lined up and live off the money I've been saving for a house deposit?

No job is ever worth the negative effect on your mental health.
However, I'd be scared to leave my job without another job secured.
Could you get a job with an agency to ensure you have some work coming in? Seems a shame to spend your deposit money when I'm sure you've worked so hard to save it.
I felt totally depressed in my last job. Absolutely hated going in. I found another job and once I'd handed my notice in I found I didn't feel as down, because I knew there was light at the end of the tunnel!
I feel for you- it's awful when you really really can't face going in every day.

You have my sincere sympathy as I'm in the same boat too. The question is how long could you survive on the money you have saved? If you could temp and keep some money coming in would you feel more confident about ditching your job?

Nothing but sympathy. If you can afford, quit. I recommend spinning it a bit so at least you're 'taking time to volunteer at x' or even 'time with family'.

If you're feeling this bad, leave. First of all, your health comes first, and secondly, staying in a dysfunctional place will mess up your norms.

If this is the second or third time you've quit precipitously, then maybe invest in some therapy and introspection.

Agree with pp it’s not worth staying in if it’s affecting your mental health. My DP got a new job last year around this time and it was awful, toxic environment, nasty colleagues, extreme deadlines yet no training or time investment in new hires. He quit after 3 months without another job to go into as it was just too much for him.
Admit it was scary to not know when we’d be back up to 2 incomes but he found something else after 6 weeks and we managed. It’s a bit of a leap of faith but life is too short.

No, I've always stuck things out and I think that's partly why it's got so bad, I'm used to persevering and things working out okay. On this occasion, they're not.

Previous jobs I've left because contracts came to and end or redundancy.

When I clicked on yours, there was a nearly identical thread in chat.

So you're not the only one!

From what you've said, just quit. It's nt worth it!

How long have you been there?

How long will your savings sustain you?
Rember you'll get no job seekers etc for a while as you quit.

Have you tried speaking to someoen at work or just tried to deal with it yourself for so long that now you're a breaking point?

How easily could you find a similarly paid job?

However the thing that beats all of this is your mental health matters most.

You also need to consider the toll on your mental health if you don't find a new job quickly or before your savings run out(speaking from experience)

In same boat as you so feel for you. If I could I would you only live once so quit and do what makes you happy

Can you get signed off by the doctor for a few weeks breathing space?

I agree with sushi. Whenever these threads come up (which is often) there are always people who advise the OP to leave for the benefit of their mental health and while I completely understand where they are coming from, it's a bit short sighted. Struggling to pay the bills, with no idea where your next paycheque is coming from isn't good for anybody's mental health. There's also the risk you could end up in the same situation again if you end up feeling pressured into taking the first job that comes along once your savings have run out.

I know what it's like to absolutely dread going into work. But I would advise anyone to stick it out just long enough until you've found something else if you possibly can. Then you can resign gleefully with a big weight off your shoulders knowing you're moving onto better things.

I did this last year.

I used savings. However it took longer to find a job than I thought, I started on the 13th of the month and got paid at the end of that month. We saw me through. If I hadn't have been paid then, I would have been fucked.

It was a great summer. Though I did also have my own house.

Op only you know how much money you have saved and how long you could live off it. If you're confident you have enough to last even if it takes you a while to get another job, then go for it.

I've been in jobs where I'm in tears on the way to work so I totally sympathise with you. The job I'm doing now, okay I don't skip to work every morning but I don't dread it, and it feels great.

I got a job at the final hour but it's not something I'd play Russian roulette with ever again.

Could you get some unpaid extended leave / doctors note (if you're feeling very anxious) while to decide what to do?
Being unemployed does nothing for positive wellbeing, in my experience. It made me feel terrible. Like I should be doing something that I'm not doing and falling behind.

Apply for every job you find that could be suitable for you, hopefully it won't take long for something better to come along. If you can take some leave in the meantime that might help.
