My son is 11 and is always watching YouTube.it has content restrictions on it but there is still lots of silly behaviour on it that he copies. We have a smart tv so I removed the YouTube ap but he was able to access it throug voice command, he also sussed out he could access it through sky as well. It seems to be impossible to block or get rid of. I have timers on his Xbox and his chromebook so I’m able to manage his time on them I just can’t seem to block YouTube! Any ideas? I have pulled the plug on the Internet but sometimes I need to use it for my work.

Is there a way you could turn off the smartness on the TV? Just make it into a normal thing for some period of time?

nosleepformetonight · 24/03/2019 07:53

Can you block it via your router / isp settings?

Greenliz1974 · 24/03/2019 11:00

Well yes I can do that, and did so only to find that DS accessed it through sky instead!! They are smart these kids!!

Do you mean specifically add it to a blocked list?

Have you tried just telling him he's not allowed to use YouTube? Or the TV at all.

GruciusMalfoy · 24/03/2019 11:23

I'd stop him using the tv unsupervised until he learnt. Is the tv in a communal room?

golightlytoday · 24/03/2019 12:04

Yes block YouTube totally.

Treaclesweet · 24/03/2019 12:12

Why not restrict his TV access?

Didntwanttochangemyname · 24/03/2019 12:17

Supervise him?

ZoeWashburne · 24/03/2019 12:28

What happens when you find out he has been watching youtube?

Greenliz1974 · 24/03/2019 18:04

It's at this point I have to tell you that he is a. Autistic and b. has PDA (Pathological demand avoidance) He gets very aggressive. I wasn't seeking to completely ban it, but to control it. It's not possible to only let him watch TV supervised. I'll maybe investigate specifying the youtube in order to block it on the TV.

The TV is in the lounge, he doesn't have a TV in his bedroom. I have on many occasions pulled the plug out for the internet but it, of course, means I can't get online myself. The kids these days all seem to want to watch youtube, specifically certain vloggers. Being Autistic, however, DS is also copying inappropriate behaviour not thinking for a minute these vloggers don't actually behave like that the whole time. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as to say he can't watch TV at all, I just want to block youtube. My TV doesn't allow me to name sites I wish to block.
