The Department for Work and Pensions has been criticised after one of its officials apparently submitted papers to a benefits appeal tribunal in which they called a disabled claimant a “lying bitch”.

The submission, formally rejecting an appeal by a disabled woman against the removal or downgrading of her personal independence payment (PIP) award,
was made public by her outraged advice worker.

In an <a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=www.rightsnet.org.uk/forums/viewthread/14271" target="_blank">extract from the papers, the DWP official questions whether the claimant is genuinely entitled to carer’s allowance, a benefit for people who care for another person for at least 35 hours a week.

“In this lying bitches [sic] case she is receiving the mid-rate carers [sic] allowance component for providing day time supervision to another disabled person.
The tribunal may wish to explore this further,”
the official writes.

Not surprised.

The DWP are rude, cruel, liars. They totally dehumanised me at my assessment and outright LIED in their report.

I don't know if any poster has experience from say 30 years ago, to judge whether it has always been this bad ?

IMHO I think the DWP made a massive mistake contracting the assessments out to CAPITA.The company must've cost the DWP thousands in court cases alone, not to mention the distress to claimants. They need to sack off CAPITA and go back to doing the job themselves. At least they have a better idea of how to assess claimants correctly

This makes no sense, there is no such thing as "mid rate carers allowance". Carers Allowance is a set amount paid at the same rate to everyone who claims it. I have serious doubts about the allegation being truthful.

With the level of Crapita incompetence and ignorance reported by so many people, factual errors are not the least surprising

In my experience of accompanying a family member to a face-2-face assessment by Capita, the assessor was a lying bitch. My cousin's assessor (not capita) was a lying bitch too. DWP were just idiots who took the word of lying bitches over written evidence provided by professionals who were far more qualified than the assessors.

Luckily both cousin and other family member won the tribunal appeals.

I think the automatic assumption is that claimants are lying. Grrr, it's brought all the anger back.

I think it's always been bad. My mum's friend has one leg. she had a medical about 20 years ago. She got to her appointment and was told the lift was broken. She struggled up the stairs. The doctor stood at the top of the stairs laughing saying you obviously don't need benefits if you can get up the stairs. She complained but it was their word against hers. Her benefits were stopped.

My Mum went to a PIP meeting. The lady running it was in a wheelchair. Everything my mum said the woman said she was worse off than my mum. The whole meeting was about her own disabilities and how nobody else deserved them only those in wheelchairs. She was aggressive throughout. She wouldn't let my Dad say a word. My mum was turned down for PIP. She was so upset she didn't appeal.

I cannot wait till assessments are recorded. They actually should be. I do appeals for a living and they actually do everything they can to put people off benefit. I know someone who is an assessor, and they are off sick because they couldn't bear it.
