Gail Dines is a professor in America who specialises in studying the effects of pornography. This is a quote from her, following a conference:

At a conference today met a survivor who was drugged to make fetish porn. The drug the porn pimps use is called Triple H (horny, hyper, happy). It is a mix of Ritalin, Ambien and ecstasy so she looks awake and willing although she is completely drugged

This makes me sad and angry in equal measure. AIBU to think this needs to be more widely know? That it underlines the fact that if you consume porn, you never really know how far away from exploitation what you are watching is.

The users don't care. My DH says he would never use prostitutes but a friend of his who is terminally single does. I pointed out that most are trafficked and DH wasn't convinced. He thinks a few might be but not the majority.
His friend is either unaware or doesn't care. Likely the latter!

That's so horrible. Those poor women - raped and then used as wank fodder online.

On one level I get that users are addicted and don't care, or will purposefully delude themselves.

At the same time though, I can't understand why there isn't more concern over porn generally.

At no other time in human history could you access the huge level of pornography we have now; the sheer volume and the wide range of extreme abusive fetish material too.

It has to be fucking people's brains over, and having an impact on behaviour and the way people develop, it just has to.

Awful!

It is disguisting, the world has lost emotional feeling, people have vast amounts of knowledge of human trafficking, child sexual abuse, adult sexual abuse, yet is more and more widely available.
Users use excuses, it is not true they're trafficked, they enjoy it, they're paid lots of money, all bullshit excuses.

YANBU

I’d be fascinated to know the response of porn users to this.

I am sure porn user will excuse it as NOT the one's they watch.

Gail Dines is an anti porn activist. She makes extreme statements (often unverified) to stir up fear and hysteria.

There are limited issues with trafficking in the sex industry, none of which are acceptable. But quoting people like Dines does nothing to alleviate the issue, she's as extreme as those that act unlawfully in the industry.

Oh? In what way?
