To not understand this nursery trend?

Since being pregnant and constantly looking at baby stuff on Instagram my entire discover is full of baby related content. All I see is floor to ceiling white/grey nursery's, with all white furniture, big fluffy white rugs.. kids bedrooms all in muted colours, mainly white and grey, very gorgeous to look at.. but AIBU to think surely these aren't what kids want? And surely it's a recipe for disaster having SO much white? I feel like if the little ones had the choice it would be a lot more colourful and a bit more fun. Some examples attached!

The room was about what dc needed not the aesthetic scheme suitable for a adult bedroom

the baby needs a safe bed, clean clothes, a gro-bag kind of things in a clean room at decent temperature.

If the decor makes the parents happy, then the baby is happy. You can be a be more secure and your own choice and not need to insult over people's taste because they make you doubt your "taste" Grin

Been obsessed with this nursery and hope I can do something like it if I had a girl. Could not cope with a room being all the colours of the rainbow and clashing. Will probably end up with a grey and white colour scheme adding the odd pink or blue depending if it was a boy or girl so that I can keep the old furniture and invest in them only replacing some soft furnishing here or there 😔

We had a dragon theme and it's very coloured: www.pinterest.co.uk/monipop84/dragon-nursery/

@GummyGoddess where is that beautiful light from??

Usuallyinthemiddle · 24/03/2019 14:36

It doesn't need to be understood. You just wanted to gripe and pearl clutch. Another "I just don't underSTAND why everyone isn't like meeee" thread.

GummyGoddess · 24/03/2019 20:33

@lrwe I got ours from Tesco but just googled and you can get two different sizes here. I think we have the smaller size as the room isn't massive. It looks a bit boring and rubbish without the light on, but both DC love it when the light is on and when it changes colour with the hue bulbs.

The theme of my babys nursery was "go the f* to sleep" - beige, rocking chair, little bit of winnie the pooh, v calming & i loved it.

DS' room has biscuit coloured carpets & daffodil white walls (same as every other upstairs except the bathroom), white furniture as that was what a friend of a friend offered us at the right moment & animal themed curtains and then a cushion out of the excess fabric. He didn't sleep through until he was 3. I don't think grey or a riot of colour would have made him sleep any sooner.

barbarr - the child in the 3rd picture looks absolutely terrified!

I wouldn't like to see the effects of a poonami on all that white!

Bleach is wonderful stuff!

Barbara has posted three rooms with white walls (but with very colourful painted furniture which looks cool in the phots but is a harder asthetic to do well than white walls and white nursery furniture (most of us don't have a good enough eye to get the colour combinations looking attractive). I don't know why everyone says white is fashion though, nursery furniture has always traditionally been painted white.

More disturbing that everyone is showing off and buys nurseries for credit

You can't assume that. There are plenty of us who have savings and no debt.

it's a cot, a changing table and a wardrobe! Unless they are gold plated, that doesn't need to break the bank (for MOST people). Ikea does perfectly suitable white furniture for babies.

My little girl wants white. I make her have rainbow colour accessories
