DD has issues with chronic pain, we’ve taken her many times for stomach palpations and she is constantly tensing up when white doctors are examining her and feels restless. Every single white doctor, she tenses more around them. We’ve had constant complains about her tensing up but she can’t control it so what do they expect?

She saw a male Filipino doctor whom she barely knows and apart from the closing of her eyes at the beginning as he was initially feeling her, she seemed okay. No complains of tensing up from the doctor. Which was great.

I asked her why it happens, she said she doesn’t know. Now I’m thinking it’s something to do with the characteristics of the doctors which causes the tensing up.

Does anyone have any insight?

I’m prepared to be told that I’m unreasonable and I’m just overthinking things but could she have been sexually assaulted and not wanting to open up about it...? :(

What age is she?

Is there a white male in her life that has scared her? Or a previous white male doctor that hurr her?

Had a student at school that was scared of our PE teacher for ages. Turned out he reminded her of her not very nice exstepdad.

It won't have to be anything as extreme as sexual abuse. That's a HUGE leap. A white male in a lab-coat who caused her pain during an examination would be enough if she's young.

She is 17 and I really don’t know :/ How do you think I should approach it with her?

I do remember we had a white female doctor doing her palpitations, my DD was constantly tensing up and when she asked if the doctor was allowed to pull her trousers down slightly she froze and couldn’t say a word to her..just breaks my heart because she’s not telling me anything as to why it’s happening

I wouldn't go jumping to conclusions and making accusations. Maybe she just felt more comfortable with the Filipino doctor? Maybe he was just a better doctor? Maybe the other doctors reminded her of a teacher or a friend's dad, or maybe she had a little crush on them.

There's a hundred reasons that today's examination went better, it's not automatically sexual assault unless you have any other reason to believe that.

Is she white?

Maybe she finds non white drs gentle overall (terrible choice of words on my part, I apologise).

Have you asked her directly why she dislikes white drs? Obviously gentler than this
