Can you feel lymph nodes?

I can feel a small squishy lymph node low down in my neck (right down deeper than collarbone). I am having a minor freak out as I have health anxiety. It is small, way smaller than 1cm and I can sort of move it around.
Can anyone else feel glands in their neck? thanks!!

I can, I have eczema which means that I always have a pea sized ball in my neck skin which is just an engorged lymph node

TowerRavenSeven · 18/03/2019 18:21

Do you have any other symptoms?

Notcool1984 · 18/03/2019 19:47

Well no other worrying symptoms (night sweats for e.g.) I have had tonsillitis and a chest infection since Christmas, but I am sure I felt the lump before then (back in September). I wonder if it has always been there and I only found it because I went poking and prodding. I hate health anxiety :(

My lymph nodes under my jaw are always palpable and if I am at all run down, they swell to the size of painful walnuts.
After a looooong time they go down again.
Soft and mobile definitely sounds promising, hard and fixed would be much scarier.

I can still feel my lymph nodes under my chin and groin, they are moveable and small, bean size, since I got dengue virus 4 months ago

I had a lump in my groin and thought it was a swollen lymph node in my groin. I ignored it for ages until it got really painful, turns out it was an abscess and it was too late to treat with antibiotics and I had to go to hospital and get it drained. Illy wouldn’t recommend that to anyone.

Feeling lymph nodes is perfectly normal. Most people can feel them. I have a few in my neck I can feel and one each side on my groin. I'm quite slim though.

You say you have to go digging to find it. If you go digging anywhere on the body you are likely to find something. Usually muscle or fat deposits.

If its not changed since september I'd say it's a normal node.

Get your GP to have a feel to reassure you

I can feel mine when I have a cold. I'd have said this might be the cause of yours but given your history probably best to get it checked out.

Lymph nodes are firm and rubbery so the soft and squishy description doesn’t sound like one. Concerning lymph nodes are more than a cm in size and you say it’s smaller.

I had one that was really noticeable sticking up on the back of my head. It was like it for about 18 months and I had two scans to check on it but then it went down in its own. It came up the same time as a sudden and vicious auto immune disease which thankfully went into remission.

It's pretty normal to be able to feel small pea or bean sized lymph nodes. If they're soft, movable and non tender this makes it more likely they are normal and nothing to worry about.

Lymph nodes on lymphoma can get big.
