To be surprised at people who say they get drunk on 1 small glass of wine?

Just that really. Even when I was a teenager and had a drink about once a year, 1 small glass of wine had no effect on me.

I drink often and will still be giggly / tipsy after one glass of fizz!

GunpowderGelatine · 18/03/2019 14:35

I don't really drink but when I do I can sink Half a bottle of vodka and barely feel tipsy. But give me a glass of wine and I'm hammered. Very strange!

cantbearsed1 · 18/03/2019 14:35

One small glass of wine. Mine because I didn't feel any different.
Sorry teenagers do play up and encourage each other to act giggly and tipsy. And I do think there is a big difference between 1 or 2 glasses of wine. I am talking about the equivalent of a 125ml glass of wine.

When I was younger I could drink spirits, cider and lager all night and be mainly fine by the end. As soon as I started on wine it would get me so drunk and went straight to my head. Not sure why it was different.

gamerwidow · 18/03/2019 14:37

I drink at least once a week so have a tolerance for alcohol but I still feel the effect of alcohol after one glass. I won’t be roaring drunk but I definitely wouldn’t be to drive or similar.

morningstress · 18/03/2019 14:37

I don't drink often and a normal size glass of wine would make me feel ill and sleepy.

I don't get alcohol tbh😂 whenever I've been tipsy/mildly drunk I've hated it!

morningstress · 18/03/2019 14:37

(Oh & I'm 20!)

BertieBotts · 18/03/2019 14:51

Yes, there is an element of absorbing the atmosphere for teens but I've definitely felt it from a small drink at home as an adult when I wasn't expecting to.

I do think it's worse with wine, probably because it's much stronger by % than a mixed drink or beer. Only shots and cocktails are higher.

Rowgtfc72 · 18/03/2019 15:05

I can go out and drink five pints of beer. Merry but not drunk.
One small glass of wine has the same effect.
I just can't handle wine.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 18/03/2019 15:08

I don’t drink a huge amount and I had a glass of red wine on Saturday night and had to go to bed. I was sleepy and woozy.

CookPassBabtridge · 18/03/2019 15:10

A glass of wine gets me drunk!
A couple of pints of cider get me drunk.
I can have a zillion spirits and mixers and feel only slighty tipsy!

onthenaughtystepagain · 18/03/2019 21:00

If you're not a heavy drinker then one glass will have an effect on you.

Smileymoon · 18/03/2019 21:02

A single glass of wine can make me very sleepy and I definitely would not be safe to drive after one.

Kevintherootvegetable · 18/03/2019 21:51

I went to a party a while back where I drank 2 glasses of wine (bar measures- 175ml) , interspersed with a sparkling water. I arrived before 8 and left at 11, so wasn't knocking them back.
The room was starting to spin after the second glass so I called it a night. I hadn't had a drop to drink for 8 weeks prior to that and I was so surprised that my tolerance to alcohol was not what it used to be.

VeronicaDinner · 18/03/2019 22:28

Alcohol with fizz hits your bloodstream quicker. I'm pretty slim and rarely drink. So a glass of champagne on an empty stomach is pretty effective. It wears off fast though.

Amfeelingfline · 19/03/2019 07:22

I don’t drink wine for that reason, it seems like I can really feel it with just a glass, especially red, however give me whisky and I can drink a few without really much effect....

Thecurtainsofdestiny · 19/03/2019 07:29

Yabu to be surprised. Odd to assume that everyone must be the same as you!

Yes different ethnic groups have different tolerances for alcohol. İt's to do with having/ not having the same quantity of one of the enzymes that metabolise alcohol.

HarrysOwl · 19/03/2019 07:33

I can get very tipsy from one drink. But not if I've had a big meal beforehand.

I don't drink often (once a month maybe) and I am generally sensitive - for example I can't have caffeine because it makes me very on edge and anxious.

Princessmushroom · 19/03/2019 07:33

I rarely drink and one drink gets me drunk. I genuinely prefer a nice cold Coke Zero than alcohol though

Snugglepiggy · 19/03/2019 07:34

I've always had a very low tolerance to alchohol -some people do.One glass of anything is enough ,after that I just want to sleep. No bad thing I think health wise - but in the past I have hated the pressure to have more by some friends who can tolerate much more. Now I don't care.I really enjoy one glass of red or a beer. Then stop.If I drank wine like one of my friends I'd be hospitalised!

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 19/03/2019 07:38

What you’re missing is the age difference. As a teenager there were tons of things I could do that would leave me on my knees now.

Lovestonap · 19/03/2019 07:46

I get the feeling OP that you think people who say they feel tipsy on one glass of wine are just making it up. Let's test that. I'll have one glass of wine and then I'll take you for a drive round some windy mountain roads. I mean, I'm almost certain that my driving would be impaired, but if you think it shouldn't have any effect on me, let's give it a go?! 😁

Geminijes · 19/03/2019 07:47

I can get tipsy on one small glass of wine. I am petite but I also know I have a very low tolerance to any alcohol.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 19/03/2019 07:52

Personally, I can drink cocktails and beer and feel okay but one small glass of wine makes me feel a bit sloshed and sends me to sleep.

I don't think it is always about people's tolerance to alcohol but just how that specific alcohol affects them.

cantbearsed1 · 19/03/2019 07:56

Kevin That is 350ml, nearly half a bottle of wine. I would feel tipsy on that.
