Or was this bloke in the cafe totally over reacting

I'm in a very dog friendly cafe with my well behaved dog. Who is on a lead and has spent 99% of the time under the table. She ventured out from under the table and sat between our table and the next table sniffing the floor.

Bloke at the next table jumped up, got right in my face and told me in a very aggressive manner to stop my dog sniffing round his table. I don't think she was but said sorry and pulled her under my table. He carried on and said it was the second time (it wasn't, though we had to walk past them at one point so he may have meant that).

He carried on ranting at which point I told him there was no need to be so aggressive and that he could have mentioned it in a far nicer manner. Which shut him up.

Photo so you can see the space dog had ventured into. Dog wasn't touching the woman's purple coat. Small spaniel who was sat in the middle of that space.

These arseholes seem to be agressive only to woman on their own.

And with small dogs. I've never seen owners of large hounds berated.

Makes me want to get a St Bernard.

onalongsabbatical · 18/03/2019 13:30

I'm not in the least a dog person, but if I was approached by your dog I'd smile and stroke. She looks about as dangerous and difficult as a marshmallow.
Verdict - man was a prat.

mydogisthebest · 18/03/2019 13:32

Your dog is gorgeous and if I were sitting at the table next to you I would want her to come out so I could say hello and, hopefully, stroke her.

Idiot guy and rude too. Probably one of those strange people that don't like dogs! I don't trust them

RedPanda2 · 18/03/2019 13:32

She's adorable and I would've asked if I coukd stroke her. He's a complete dick

FuckertyBoo · 18/03/2019 13:33

Well, now that I’ve seen a picture of that viscous werewolf of yours, yabu Wink.

Obviously, he is being U. I love dogs and am very used to them. But I have also been known to tell owners off if they have lost control. That’s not what this sounds like at all. Yanbu.

FuckertyBoo · 18/03/2019 13:34

*vicious!!! Not viscous 😂

Alienspaceship · 18/03/2019 13:36

You know the cafe is dog friendly. But is this clearly signposted on the door? I can’t stand dogs in cafes and it’s bloody annoying to find out after I’ve ordered something that dogs are welcome.

DarlingNikita · 18/03/2019 13:36

No one was 'slobbering' Confused The capacity and willingness of people on here to overdramatise and extrapolate always amazes me.

Alienspaceship · 18/03/2019 13:37

In case you’re wondering, I hate the crotch sniffing, drooling, moulting, general sniffing and smell of dogs.

WarpedGalaxy · 18/03/2019 13:38

Snowflakes1122 If people don’t like dogs in cafes then they shouldn’t go in cafes where dogs are welcome. It’s really not difficult.

I’m looking at the pictures of that inoffensive little dog and wondering wtf this guy’s problem was, she’s adorable!

AFistfulofDolores1 · 18/03/2019 13:39

I'm a cat person. I think your dog is a cutie pie!

trancepants · 18/03/2019 13:39

Not everyone likes dogs in cafes.

And I don't like kids running around screaming while I have my morning coffee. Which is why I don't go to a playcentre for breakfast. Not liking dogs in cafes is reasonable. Going to a dog friendly cafe and having a problem with the dogs in there is not.

outpinked · 18/03/2019 13:40

Dog friendly cafe, if he didn’t like that then he could have easily chosen somewhere else to eat. YANBU.

boringlyboring · 18/03/2019 13:42

What a terrifying ball of floof.

Keletubbie · 18/03/2019 13:42

I seek out dog-friendly cafes even when I don't have my dog with me. Dog-friendly people are generally more pleasant and there's the bonus opportunity of seeing or patting dogs.

IrmaFayLear · 18/03/2019 13:42

Aww, you're being a bit harsh! Why not be a bit open minded - the smell of wet dog can be pleasantly pungent and I feel the perfect complement to an outfit is a liberal supply of hair and slobber round the hem.

cherrytree63 · 18/03/2019 13:43

I'd be really pissed off
....that the lead was too short for me to have a smooch with her Grin

Fromage · 18/03/2019 13:46

Well your cute little fluffy dog is obviously terrifying in the flesh/fur.

Presumably this man was the size of a teletubby soft toy to feel so threatened.

The only danger your dog is, is to be a danger to cute overload syndrome and she probably thinks her name is "Awwwwww."

Silly tantrumming boy to behave like that. Maybe he spectacularly skid 5 metres on his arse after sliding over in fox shit on the way home.

Fromage · 18/03/2019 13:46

"May he" - not maybe.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 18/03/2019 13:48

ÃŽ can't help thinking that 'dog friendly' should mean 'we arllow you to bring your well-behaved dog in here', not 'all customers have to adore dogs sniffing around them and whatever other contact they choose and are terrible human beings if they just want to have their coffee in peace with no dog contact'.

Obviously HWBU for being aggressive. If it had been me (I am a 'wrong'un', according to a PP Hmm ) ) would have said to you 'Sorry, do you mind keeping your dog a big closer to your table? I'm not keen on dogs and he's getting a bit too close for comfort'. How would you have found that?

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 18/03/2019 13:49

'a bit closer', obviously.

mrsm43s · 18/03/2019 13:49

I'm not a fan of dogs in cafes, pubs etc. So if a venue is dog-friendly, I have to choose between not going there, or accepting that there will be dogs there! I wouldn't have a go at someone for having a dog in a dog-friendly venue, but agree it should be clearly signposted as such. The only time I would be upset is if the dogs were not under control, bouncing up in my face etc, but by going into a dog friendly venue, I've accepted that there will be dogs in there, and wouldn't think to complain just about their presence.

MaMaMaMySharona · 18/03/2019 13:50

I am very suspicious of these kinds of people

Agreed Grin

MaMaMaMySharona · 18/03/2019 13:52

Alienspaceship most dog friendly cafes would have this signposted on the door or window outside as otherwise people won't know. You seem overly offended by dogs!

Crazybunnylady123 · 18/03/2019 13:55

He sounds like a bully to me. Your dog looks small, sweet and dainty.
She was under control on a lead in a dog friendly place. He is being an arsehole. Forget about it!
