To think we've messed up with passport and should forget it?

Meant to be going away 2nd week of Easter.

Discovered today that just one of the DCs passport runs out in June, so not 6 months on it.

DH still reckons we can get it through on time...I'm thinking with the panic over Brexit, the wait for passports atm is going to be insane?

Do we frantically try or just accept that we've messed this one up and try to book something cheap and cheerful in the UK fast before those are all booked up too and we end up with nothing??? Nightmare.

TM has said it's either agree a deal or Brexit won't happen. There is not going to be a no deal. Contact your passport office with your query or your airline might know.

I've just renewed our kids ones online- it took 5 days to get the new ones.

gambaspilpil · 17/03/2019 15:41

WordsAndWorlds they can be done online and as long as you have a digital photo to upload its really easy. I simply asked the place I got her photo done to email me a copy. You dont need a counter signatory as its a renewal. I did my DD last weekend and sent the passport back on Monday. That is the only document I was asked to send and I had a text yesterday stating it was printed and will arrive next week.

MoveOnTheCards · 17/03/2019 15:41

We’ve just done DC’s through the post office check and send and got the new one back within a week. Go for it!

ShannonRockallMalin · 17/03/2019 15:41

DH renewed his passport a couple of weeks ago and it was back within a week. You can take the photo yourself and upload so it’s much more straightforward than it used to be with having to get photos done.

Driftingthoughlife · 17/03/2019 15:43

We renewed online for my husband and DS as we are going away Easter and they were both back in 8 days. And that was with us having to send a second photo of DS

Comefromaway · 17/03/2019 15:45

I’ve just renewed my son’s ready for a school trip. I filled it in online then sent the countersigned photos off as per instructions. It came through in 8 days.

Aquilla · 17/03/2019 15:45

Recently flew right around the world and only in the UAE did we need 6 months on our passports. You can get it done in a day but it will cost you!

brizzlemint · 17/03/2019 15:46

DD is on a school trip to the EU at Easter and they have been told they need 6 months on their passports.

Thesunrising · 17/03/2019 15:47

Just renewed our 5 year olds passport. 8 day turnaround. Very quick! Follow @passportwaiting on Twitter for real-time info on turnaround times.

Playmytune · 17/03/2019 15:47

My son made an appointment at the passport office. Everything checked and passport delivered in less than a week.

noenergy · 17/03/2019 15:53

DS took a week last June and DH took 10 days at the beginning of this month so u should get it back in time.

We applied online and then had to print out the page for the counter signature and send it off. I would apply online today and start they process.

Where are u flying to? Not all countries need 6 months.

heidivodca · 17/03/2019 15:56

I renewed my DS’s passport in a day - ring and arrange an appointment (though not much help if you don’t live near a passport office!)

ParkaPerson · 17/03/2019 15:57

I did check and send at the post office for my child's first ever UK passport and it arrived 5 days later. All is not lost!

americandream · 17/03/2019 16:02

I have never understood why people book holidays abroad without checking their passports (and the passports of everyone going on the trip,) and how much time they have on them.

Also don't get how people don't know. I know exactly when we renewed our passports (February 2013,) so know it's due for renewal February 2023.

Why do people not know/retain such important information? Confused

chipsandgin · 17/03/2019 16:06

Just did a child renewal online, no countersignature required as it was a renewal and it took 2 weeks. Don’t panic!

scaryteacher · 17/03/2019 16:07

EU advice is three months fromn the last date you are in the EU, so if I leave Belgium on 6/12/19, my passport needs to be valid til 06/03/20

prettybird · 17/03/2019 16:08

For a renewal, even for a child, you can absolutely do it on line - and it's quicker than the Post Office's Check and Send. Iirc, you only need the photo counter-signed if your child has changed a lot (can't remember the exact wording). Ds' didn't need his photo counter-signed, as the photo of him at 16 photo bore a very strong resemblance to the passport photo of him at 11 Grin

ChicCroissant · 17/03/2019 16:09

I did my DD's online and it took less than a week to arrive - no countersigned photos though, she has to sign her own passport now (over 12).

chipsandgin · 17/03/2019 16:09

Oh and americandream good for you. I personally never understand why people lack empathy & understanding for others whose minds and lives are different to theirs & are patronising and unhelpful about it with zero purpose Confused. But hey, what a bland world it would be if we were all the same...

Mumsymumphy · 17/03/2019 16:12

I renewed my passport online on the Saturday, received it the following Wednesday.

SwedishEdith · 17/03/2019 16:16

Why do people not know/retain such important information?

Because not everyone is that anal. Get passport, go on holiday, shove it back in drawer until book holiday again and then, maybe, spot dates.

lyralalala · 17/03/2019 16:17

That’s fine when you have one passport, or apply for all passports at the same time.

If the adults have passports when the kids are born, and there’s more than one kid, you can quickly end up with 3/4/5 different dates to try and remember.

Plus everyone is not as perfect as you either...

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 16:17

You dont need a counter signatory as its a renewal

Not true, it depends on whether the child can still be recognised and how old they are.

OP, please check yourself, don't rely on advice from people who don't know the rules

Raspberry10 · 17/03/2019 16:18

I did DD’s 3 week’s ago online and it was back in 4 days. Normal service.
