Jeans in an interview?

Posting here for traffic and wisdom. I have an interview for a manager position at a big supermarket next week. It's the final interview as I got through the last 2 rounds.
It's with the Area manager and we've spoken on the phone, he's super nice and it was a relaxed chat about the job. He gave me the date, time, store etc and said he'd look forward to meeting me so we can talk some more about the role.
I've looked online at the company and interview reviews and it seems once you get to this part of the process it's a walk around the store and an informal type interview. So I was so wondering if it would be ok to wear my black skinny jeans with my new smart shirt, suit jacket and smart ankle boots? I've tried the outfit on with trousers but the jeans look nicer and smarter and I feel more comfortable in them so therefore I think I'll be more confident.

WWYD? Are black jeans a definite no no and should I head to the shops to find nicer pair of trousers instead?

They are flat boots, I don't do heels. Off trouser shopping tomorrow, Next seem to have some nice ones online so I'll go there first 👍
Btw they look more like leggings than jeans but I won't risk it.

I work in an industry where depending on the company jeans would be fine for an interview. However you don't know that until you turn up so you simply don't wear them just in case.

I wear smart dresses while men turn up in a suit but take the jacket off.

I think it’s probably a no in this instance (given the job you’re interviewing for), but I don’t agree with the people saying never wear jeans to a job interview. I think proper pitch/inky black skinny jeans look very smart if they fit well and are teamed with an appropriate top and formal shoes. I find they generally look much better than a cheap pair of black ‘work’ trousers which are quite often cut terribly. Nicely tailored trousers are probably a safer bet if you can get some though. Good luck! Smile

Believe what you like. I have no reason to lie. They are M&S super skinny jet black jeans. They are not faded in anyway at all. I have got every job I went for when wearing them. Maybe they are my lucky trousers or maybe they actually look a lot smarter than some people think. Or maybe a lot of people actually want someone who can do the job and not faff about with what they wear when they still look business smart. My role now I actually wear blue jeans (shock horror) and it's the education sector.

I'm sure no one is particularly i interested but I got the job 😊 interviews are my super power, I'm great at them haha, no idea why as I'm not a confident person at all.
Anyway I went with black skinny trousers that indeed looked exactly like my black skinny jeans but I knew they were trousers so that that's the main thing 😏

Congratulations spicylolly.

Well done. Good luck with the new job.

LaurieMarlow · 26/03/2019 16:55

Congrats. Good luck with the job.

There are certainly situations where jeans are appropriate for an interview (this wasn’t one of them though).

In one of my previous jobs, an interviewee would have been discounted for wearing a suit as that would have signalled a lack of understanding of the sector and the company culture. It’s important to judge each situation individually.

SileneOliveira · 26/03/2019 16:59

Never for a management position.

You might get away with jeans interviewing for a job in a bar or something though.

LaurieMarlow · 26/03/2019 17:00

Never for a management position

Depends on sector.

Congrats OP & good luck! Flowers
