Toddler Swimming and what to wear

Not the most relevant place to ask this but wanted some traffic ..
DS is 2.5yrs and as just been potty trained but is still having some accidents.
Previous he has been wearing a swim nappy with a happy nappy over the top, he has now grown out of the happy nappy sizes. So what do I dress him in? A swim nappy with just normal swim shorts over the top?
So AIBU to ask you all what you dress your just potty trained toddlers in for swimming? I don’t want to be that mother who did the wrong thing and got the pool shut down ......

Swim nappy and swimming shorts

CatFaceCats · 16/03/2019 14:05

Anyway, most swimming nappies don’t absorb the pee anyway (otherwise they would be massive when wet, like normal nappies) the point of kids swimming nappies is to catch poo :)

GilmoresForever · 16/03/2019 14:07

Thanks Catits the poo I am worried about. The happy nappy has tight top and bottom so if the nappy leaks it holds it in. I was just worried that a swim nappy and swim shorts wouldn’t be enough but it sounds like it might be!

I agree. Swim nappy and whatever he wants on top. Mine liked shortie wetsuits at that age as our local pool is cold.

A swim nappy on it's own or with swim shorts should be fine. Personally, I would put swim shorts on a child of two, or other children might think he's a baby and innocently say something.

Pascha · 16/03/2019 14:10

like this

MammaMia19 · 16/03/2019 14:10

I've always just used a normal swim nappy and shorts or the wetsuit type costumes.

GilmoresForever · 16/03/2019 14:13

Thanks all, I think I was just overthinking. I am going to just use a swim nappy then shorts or a wetsuit in top!

If it's poo you're worried about, I would suggest an all in one wetsuit or sunsafe type suit, purely as they trap any escaping poo! DS is 2 and wears swim nappies but poo still managed to get all the way to his neck and knees bleurgh

You can get happy nappies in bigger sizes called splash shorts - small child is the next one after the infant sizes.

ThePurpleGirl · 16/03/2019 17:01

They also do happy nappies in bigger sizes with slightly longer legs, called Jammers - they've got them on Amazon.

reefedsail · 16/03/2019 17:08

You can get 'happy nappies' right up to adult sizes because they do them for people with disabilities.

However, at 2-3ish we used a swim nappy and a shortie wetsuit and I always thought DS looked much warmer than the toddlers in swimming trunks.

Splash about do kids and adult sizes. I have a 10 year old with special needs who wears them.
