Browsing in a large charity shop wuth a toddler pottering about. In the childs section, i was looking at books while she was looking at toys getting things out admittedlt leaving 3 or 4 on the floor. I was just turning aeound to pick them hp when an assistant came over and said 'could you please not let your child wreck the place'.

Thoughts please as im annoyed at the comment as shes a very yound child who was doing what kids do, i was close by ready to put things away and was going to help the charity by buying several items.

The OP was panicked and felt unsafe due to the aggression i think

Ummm... nope, not seeing that in the OP at all.

Certainly an interesting contribution from you on this thread though, almost like you and tinker share the same brain.

mollycoddle77 · 16/03/2019 20:13

YANBU OP if you are still reading, I don't know what's wrong with people on this thread today.

YouTheCat · 16/03/2019 20:14

I'm having a slow evening. This has been most entertaining.

Look with your eyes, not with your hands as my mum always said to us when we were very young.

I know. It's the quality of the repartee, I think Grin Plus the worst sock in Mumsnet history

LoudBatPerson · 16/03/2019 20:18

Heyjacksparrowboyman - Loud mouth? Maybe so, but at least I am hiding behind a different account.

FemalePersonator · 16/03/2019 20:18

This has been most entertaining.

Agreed. The sockpuppet posts have been fun, too.

YouTheCat · 16/03/2019 20:19

I do like a spot of repartee. I haven't opened the wine yet and needed a giggle.

NotACleverName · 16/03/2019 20:19

If you're going to sock puppet don't make it so obvious, @tinkerbelljacksparrowpoopman.

Klopptimist · 16/03/2019 20:20

I suppose I'm disabled to an extent - I often need to use a walking stick - and I tend to be pretty light hearted about it. When children are playing on the floor in shops, I'd say they're at risk of a faceful of ferrule so if you can't consider others, do consider the danger to your own little darling.

Siameasy · 16/03/2019 20:21

🍿

LoudBatPerson · 16/03/2019 20:23

Anyone else remember making sock puppets as a child? (Not on the floor of a charity shop obviously)

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2019 20:23

I think the socks have been washed.

LindaLyndell · 16/03/2019 20:23

WHAT?! Your child was playing with some toys whilst you were close by?! What did the police say?! Did someone alert the church elders?!

YANBU!

I was in a furniture store today and a mother and father were in with their two kids, about 3 and 5, they ran riot and screamed and stomped all over the shop, jumped on beds etc, the parents did nothing, I loudly said, Oh my god who owns those kids?! They heard me and just gave me a filthy look, and continued to say oh please little johnny calm down whilst leaving them run riot regardless, I could barely hear the shop keeper speak over them. Rude and parents need to watch their kids when in any store.

ddl1 · 16/03/2019 20:39

I think both you and the shop assistant were somewhat U. You should not have let your child play with items, certainly not several at once, before buying them. She should not have used an exaggerated phrase like 'wrecking the place', but have simply stated the rule: 'we only let children play with things once you've bought them'. However, I'd give her a break, especially because in a charity shop the staff may well be volunteers, doing the work for little or no money.

TripeAtFourPence · 16/03/2019 20:39

A 1 year old shouldn't be let loose like a bull in a china shop

And if your 1 year old had pulled something heavy off the shelf instead of a stuffed toy and hurt themselves

Who on earth let's a 1 year old have free rein in a shop?

Omg what a load of catastrophising bullshit on this thread!!!
Fuck me! OP the comments on this thread are unbelievable, your child was playing with a couple of teddies next to you while you browsed, which is fine. The shop assistant was rude.
I agree with everything @InionEile Said at 13.09!
