AIBU to be surprised that the NZ terrorist attack isn’t trending on AIBU?

I’m also wondering whether the ‘I stand with...’ frames will appear on Facebook soon?

I was also wondering why there's been no mention of it here #ALLlivesmatter

GoFiguire · 15/03/2019 23:46
Biscuit
MadCatEnthusiast · 15/03/2019 23:47

I doubt we'll have the 'I stand with...' frames as they were out a bit sooner by now but true, AIBU is quiet.

FlibbertyGiblets · 15/03/2019 23:47

In The News folder. Not really AIBU fodder tbh.

Weirdlookingbricks · 15/03/2019 23:51

I've noticed that the FB frames seem to be Eurocentric

OftenHangry · 15/03/2019 23:55

I will say it out right. Because why would iit? White guy from New Zealand is not as talk worthy as a "brown" guy "muslim" from... Well. Anywhere🤔

HerRoyalNotness · 15/03/2019 23:58

White guy from australia actually.

My family in NZ and kiwi expats I know here have added the ‘frames’ to their profile pics. A lot of us are discussing it on our expat pages and using them as a way to process what has happened.

There has been a thread in feminism and in the news. Nothing about AIBU is appropriate for a discussion on the atrocity.

Kintan · 16/03/2019 00:00

I’ve seen a few threads on here on the topic. Curious why you think it’d be on AIBU? What would the AIBU be?

RestingButchFace · 16/03/2019 00:00

I have seen a few "this isn't us" frames but no NZ flag covers like the France attack etc. Sadly I believe that I give society more credit than it deserves. Several of my friends have written supportive statuses but that is probably the echo chamber effect.

catdoctor · 16/03/2019 00:01

Well that’s my point Often and presumably why Gofiguire thinks I’m goady,
Why aren’t we talking about it?

PickAChew · 16/03/2019 00:06

Maybe no one thinks they're unreasonable in thinking that the act that resulted in 49 deaths was truly and utterly shit, so why ask mumsnet to demonstrate otherwise.

Schuyler · 16/03/2019 00:08

There’s nothing AIBU worthy about it. People are talking about it, doesn’t have to be on here.

Weedsnseeds1 · 16/03/2019 00:09

Maybe the AIBU should be "to think that the level of Islamophobia emerging in the UK means that something like that is likely to happen here soon?".

catdoctor · 16/03/2019 00:09

I’m not suggesting it should be in AIBU - but many equally horrific and sensitive matters are picked over here.

AnneOfCleanTables · 16/03/2019 00:11

I'd be surprised if it was trending on AIBU. It's a terrorist attack. It's completely inappropriate for AIBU. There are threads on MN and they have been running since this the news first broke.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 16/03/2019 00:11

HQ - yet more proof that people don't realise there's more to the talk boards than AIBU??

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2019 00:13

I wanted to start a thread, I wasn't sure how. I checked a few times for one, I am quiet, completely shocked, I can't find the words, I am so horrified by this fucked up psychos actions, my DNs boyfriend sent me a 5 sec clip, I am disturbed.
I am ashamed of the evil some humans show, He is a white man but he is a creature, a demented scumbag taking their life away.
I am so sorry for the loss of life. Flowers

EmeraldShamrock · 16/03/2019 00:23

I automatically go to AIBU Blush

brizzlemint · 16/03/2019 00:24

Why would it be on aibu?

Start of thread
Aibu to think it's terrible?
No, of course not.
End of thread.

There are three threads

I had a look at the 2017 Barcelona attack (22 dead, 152 injured, separate incidents) for comparison:

Someone complaining the BBC weren't leading with it

Someone worrying about their teenager going on a trip to Barcelona

Not really sure what you're expecting. People don't really post on AIBU about terrorist attacks, unless they have some hot take (like you).

Tavannach · 16/03/2019 01:16

Mumsnet was where I first heard about it last night.
