All my binbags have been taken off my driveway- creeped out or aibu?

I am home alone for half each month with baby DC as DH works away.

DC has been sick so have been cleaning like crazy so rather than normal 1 binbag I had 7 plus some smaller ones. I put them out this afternoon onto my drive, beside my car.

It has been stormy and wet here all day.

Now DC asleep I have just been out to add the recycling boxes and someone has taken every single back. To do this they would have had to squreze past my car. I saw my neighbour over the wall as I came back in, she heard my sidegate and came to check no-one was breaking in
I asked her but she didn't kbow as binmen come tomorrow

This has happened at least once before in the 3 years we have lived here.

DH not due back till tomorrow

AIBU to be creeped out? Rational explanations please?

Someone hoping to steal your identity? That's the only reason I can think of, but I'm not very imaginative. I shall watch this thread with interest!

No ideas, but I’m intrigued! Wish someone would come and take our excess rubbish and save me a trip to the dump, point your mystery rubbish thief in my direction!

Quite often where I live anything left on the kerb, so things waiting for special uplift from the bin men, couches, wash machines, etc is uplifted by travellers. They drive around the day before bins are due to check things out and then take them.

Maybe something similar?

Its just freaky. I am here so much alone with our baby... Baby has had threadworm so bags full of disposables and anti bac wipes :(

Well if someone has stolen them for a rummage it sounds like they may get more than they bargained for Wink hopefully they'll think twice next time!

Ha! Ha! On the contents! 😂 someone got something they didn't bargain on.

Whenever I need to get rid of broken/unwanted appliances I put them just inside the front gate and they are gone within 24hrs without the need to arrange a visit to the dump or Council assistance..

On a serious note. If you do ever put out paper for recycling ensure any financial or anything with identity information (including your name) have been removed and out through a cross-shredder. I even remove barcodes on parcels as I'm unsure what information they contain.

Or neighbour has done a tip run and knowing your home alone decided they had room in their car for your general waste? Didnt want to disturb you when baby may be asleep?

On another note, how/why are you using antibacterial wipes for threadworm. If it's for washing hands, far more hygwnix to use a water and soap, if it's to clean the changing area worms and their w
eggs aren't bacteria and so won't be killed. Hoover the area and wash well.

In wet and windy weather if people leave excess bags out around here people will pick them up and put them in their own bin to prevent the bags splitting and blowing the rubbish all over the street.

So what if there's a traveller settlement not far away @creepyoraibu . Why would they want your rubbish? They probably have far better things in their homes than you have in yours. Also, you assuming that someone from the travellers site would want your rubbish is bordering on racist tbh. If you had a lot of Asian people living nearby, would you have made a similar statement about them? I doubt it, because that would be racist wouldn't it! Travellers and Romany Gypsys are a protected class of people and you're not allowed to say things like that about them.
Either the bags have been taken by someone to put in their wheelie bin to stop them blowing away or you've got a local hoarder who likes to hoard other people's rubbish.

Blimey you miserable lot.

How about a neighbour was going to the tip and thought: oh look that nice lady with a small baby has got some bag of rubbish, I'll just untie one and check they really are rubbish not charity shop stuff then take them along with mine. I won't ring the bell and tell her in case I wake the baby.

But noooooo . . . it's got to be some sleazy thief who's going to get a nasty surprise, how hilarious.

It was so windy here yesterday that next door neighbours wheely bin blew over here times. Mine was ok, but only because it was full to the brim and squished down then filled again.

I also suspect travellers, they take everything left out here too, which is very useful when you want to get rid of your old cooker or rusty garden table, you just have to be careful to hide anything outside you DO want to keep. A friend left her sink outside whilst they did some work, a lovely old pedestal and they smashed the taps off it.

I suspect the “thief” thought it was bags of clothes and shoes for the charity shop if they were by the car!

That’s a weird assertion. You’ve no idea what the OP or the travellers who live near her have in their houses.

Agree it’s not on to assume travellers are responsible for criminal activity, but the OP wasnt assuming they wanted her rubbish, she was responding to a PP who referenced travellers near her being responsible for identity theft.

I'd assume it was either a kind deed from a neighbour, or a nervous neighbour who feared they'd split and cause rubbish blowing around the street! Or someone mistook them for charity collection bags and stole them Grin threadwormy nappies anyone?

It wasn't the OP who brought up travellers. She was responding to another poster who said that in her area they have been seen driving round before bin day, looking at rubbish.
