I get married in 12 weeks time.

I booked a hairstylist over eight months ago! After careful consideration...etc. (I’d heard good things about this salon/ read reviews online).

I asked to come in for a trial earlier but was told no, not until 2-3 months before- this seemed to be standard practise amongst wedding hair stylist...so fine.

Went for my ‘trial’ the other day (keeping in mind that it’s a stately home wedding, and I have two very shy under 10 flower girls looking forward to getting their hair done, so I want the morning getting ready to be chilled out...etc)

The woman I’d expected (heard good things about) was no longer there. The woman who did my hair was...not right. I’m not even kidding. My mother (who came with me) had to go for a walk, she felt so uncomfortable and some of the things the salon staff were saying 🙄.

Also, heavily tattooed (sleeves down both arms and neck). Long black acrylic nails- absoloutley wouldn’t look right in any getting ready pics. And my hair started falling out 30 mine after I left 😒

Not an option. So I rang about 20 other wedding hair stylists yesterday to be told...sorry we book like a year in advance. Which is fair enough, but if none of them offer trials until 2-3 months before the date, then what the hell are you supposed to do if your trial goes horribly???

You have no other choice!!!

Short of not getting a hairstylist (and we need one)...I have no idea what the hell to do!

Her appearance has nothing to do with her work.

Her work doesn't sound of a good standard however.

This happened to me, I booked with a specific salon knowing the hairstylist was good. She had done my hair for years. When I went for my trial it turned out she had left the business and the woman doing my hair was crap. I specifically sought out the other stylist who now has her own business doing home visits. She charged half the cost too.

youwouldthink · 14/03/2019 11:08

Your wedding is on Maui isn't it???

kingfisherblue33 · 14/03/2019 11:10

And my hair started falling out 30 mins after I left

Can you blame the hairdresser for that? Did it really?

anascrecca · 14/03/2019 11:12

For my wedding I just booked my normal hairdresser for 930 on the morning of my wedding, Had an idea of what I wanted in advance and had discussed it with her. had the cut and colour done the week before by a differernt hairdresser (her friend) Didn’t have any photos taken of me having my hair done except a few selfies.

LagunaBubbles · 14/03/2019 11:12

Also, heavily tattooed (sleeves down both arms and neck). Long black acrylic nails- absoloutley wouldn’t look right in any getting ready pics

What a pile of judgemental snobbery crap. Nothing wrong with wanting "getting ready" photos I suppose. But to say someone wouldn't look in them just because of their appearance is horrible. Don't choose her if she's a bad hairdresser fine.

AdobeWanKenobi · 14/03/2019 11:13

I have one similar - I'm standing with my mum by the window, hair done (no pics of this wink ) in a scratty dressing gown scoffing a bacon butty

Bet you get more joy out of that than a posed shot of a hairdresser you'd met twice before and Marthas flower girls with the makeup brushes Grin
Maybe thats the future, flower girls with bacon butties!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 14/03/2019 11:15

Thanks to Sparkle and 2 boys for clearing that up Grin

MarthasGinYard · 14/03/2019 11:16

Op didn't return to her 'pre nup' thread either if I remember correctly....

Pinkbells · 14/03/2019 11:16

Have you not tried talking to this heavily tattooed monster and giving her feedback so that she can try it a different way? Hmm

Karigan195 · 14/03/2019 11:18

I went to the usual hair dresser who was amazing. Check your usual salon first

MarthasGinYard · 14/03/2019 11:19

You could always just don a

' HappyHattie' if all goes a wry....

vintanner · 14/03/2019 11:21

Keep ringing round or wear a wig?

Sparklesocks · 14/03/2019 11:21

According to OP's other posts she is both battling a pre nup and already married so who knows!

MarthasGinYard · 14/03/2019 11:23

'and already married'

WhaaaatttShock

catmumof1 · 14/03/2019 11:24

I had my hair and makeup trial before I booked (6 months out), it seems silly to commit to a stylist before you know if they're right.
So YANBU, post in local wedding FB groups, you'll be able to get in touch with independent stylists who you might not have found otherwise.
I ended up choosing a vintage hair and makeup artist even though I'm not going with a traditional vintage style so I would expand your search to that as well.

But, YABVU to judge her on her tattoos and nails...

Saying that, my wonderful vintage stylist also has tattoos so you probably wouldn't like her anyway.

Sparklesocks · 14/03/2019 11:25

Martha well she refers to to partner as DH in some posts, but maybe that's just as she sees herself as married - who knows!

LongtimeLurkerNowPokemonHunter · 14/03/2019 11:26

Not managing to style your hair well and it coming loose- valid complaint

Appearance - sod off

Mine had purple hair. The getting ready pics are brilliant and show us having a laugh and her getting me ready. Her hair is irrelevant!

Lweji · 14/03/2019 11:27

Have you been asking the other stylists if they have tattoos or long painted nails? That could explain their reluctance to have you.

Do people really need hair stylists? Can't they just quickly go to the hairdressers?

And how much styling do flower girls need?

And 10 flower girls? It will look like a religious procession.

Is it possible that you are starting to grow green scales and some pointed teeth and claws? You know you are.

TinyTear · 14/03/2019 11:28

@Lweji two Under-10 flower girls - not ten flower girls!!

TinyTear · 14/03/2019 11:29

anwyay, for my wedding i went to a regular hairdresser and drove home... then got dressed.
why would i have someone taking photos?

Lweji · 14/03/2019 11:29

Ups, sorry. Blush

Still, how much styling do under 10s need?

longearedbat · 14/03/2019 11:30

@Gone4Good that's a lovely story.

Mustbetimeforachange · 14/03/2019 11:30

There are specialist wedding hairdressers and "getting ready" photos? Who knew? I just had my regular hairdresser who came to my house.
