To ask for an ambulance?

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 20:46

I don't know what to do really.
Had a bit of leg pain and tingling the last day or so and wasn't concerned at all but I rang 111, because I had a pulmonary embolism a year ago I thought I should be cautious in case it was another blood clot.
111 people got a doctor from the local hospital to ring me back, she said she isn't concerned from what I've said but wants me to come to a&e straight away for bloods and scan.
I honestly feel fine and a little bit embarrassed, what if it's just a sore muscle or something.
But when I got off the phone I then realised I now have £3 in my bank account and about 80p cash, so can't get an Uber or a bus at this time. I'm a student so all my friends and family are in a different city. Should I ring 111 back and ask if they have a way to transport me? I feel well but if a doctor has told me to go to a&e then it's made me worried.

How far from a and e are you?
Do you understand the ramifications of DVTs and PEs? If you have a clot it may travel, if that happens it can kill you. You have previous history of blood clots, get to the bloody hospital and stop putting obstacles in your way.
Phone your parents house phone for a start, your sister, your partner or the taxi company and ask if you can put it on account. How much will the taxi actually be?

BlimeyCalmDown · 13/03/2019 21:42

P.S Failing that (calling sister back) call a local cab company - explain the situation, if you give them something for security they may let you pay later

Have you actually checked the buses? even in my little town the hospital bus runs til nearly midnight. Alternatively try your uni, I know my sisters uni has arranged to get her to hospital before, or call 111 and ask them if there is any transport that is not an ambulance, some hospitals do use taxis to transport people they want to see ASAP but don't feel require an ambulance.

NerrSnerr · 13/03/2019 21:43

Post on FB asking if a friend can drive you to and from hospital or lend you £10.

Historydweeb · 13/03/2019 21:43

I really feel for you OP and I'm sorry that a lot of posters don't seem to grasp the fact that it's totally possible to have absolutely no access to money. NONE Sad
I really hope you're ok

GoGoGadgetGin · 13/03/2019 21:43

The transport for older patients is for discharge home from hospital or can at times be to scheduled appointments and you have to jump through hoops to get it. Pp mentioned compassion fatigue and this is so real, the amount of people who feel they require an ambulance to get home as they came in that way (despite not actually really requiring it) astounds me, people who are medically fit, but refuse to take responsibility to get themselves home or be supported by available family to do so.

Fiveredbricks · 13/03/2019 21:43

Funny that isn't it @kaytee87 ...

Don't be a mug folks. Keep your pennies.

Youcangoyourownwoo · 13/03/2019 21:44

Oh right, sorry I had no idea. How do you remember everyone's user names from
other threads?

Aden your kids at home?

Orchidflower1 · 13/03/2019 21:44

Nobody is telling you to wait op- particularly if you’ve been told otherwise.

EVERYONE is saying don’t phone 999.

theonetowalkinthesun · 13/03/2019 21:44

OP you need to go tonight. Don't be a martyr.
Use the £3 in your joint account with the contactless card to get a bus to the hospital. You can worry about how you're gonna get home once you know you're okay.
Ring your sister who thinks you should go tomorrow and ask her to just transfer a tenner. She can spare a tenner- even if she doesn't think you should go tonight, she can spare a tenner.
You're a uni student- message a single other student who you are friends with or know to transfer you a tenner.

Those are some of your options.

Nicknacky · 13/03/2019 21:45

So phone your partner and ask him for help with finding money.

How long is £3 to last you both?

startalovetrain · 13/03/2019 21:45

Why are you asking for help when
You have an answer for every single suggestion? HmmHmm

FixTheBone · 13/03/2019 21:46

Agree with the swell of sentiment on here.

In my opinion the reason the NHS is in dire straights is basically mission creep... It started as universal free health care. Then all these added bits started creeping in, paying travel expenses, accommodation, transport, prescriptions for otc drugs essentially for convenience.

theonetowalkinthesun · 13/03/2019 21:46

Also agree with PP as another option - I know multiple taxi drivers who would drive you if you left something as a promise you would pay them back, especially for a drive to the hospital.

EstrellaDamn · 13/03/2019 21:46

Patient transport for elderly people is payable, and also booked in advance. Not connected to your situation at all I'm afraid.

kaytee87 · 13/03/2019 21:47

Your partner spent £500 on a weekend away recently and can't send you money for a taxi. You're also a penniless student but planning on ttc soon.
You're either a fantasist or have a really bizarre life.

Chouetted · 13/03/2019 21:47

Find my Nightline page is at www.nightline.ac.uk/want-to-talk/

GassyAss · 13/03/2019 21:47

Why isn't your partner sending money? You say he's away but he can't live on fresh air so he must have some resource.

Say WHAT!! With every single thread they read? They search the OP? Really? Why am I so shocked? It's like MumsNet stalking!

LikeACowsOpinion · 13/03/2019 21:48

My mother died in September after a clot travelled from her leg to her lung. Her only symptoms were slight breathlessness and a tingling in her foot.

Go to A&E.

Only the dodgy sounding ones

ReggieWoo · 13/03/2019 21:49

Not sure about the A&E visit but I'd hold off TTC when you're in such hard times.

Phone your parents landline

FissionChip5 · 13/03/2019 21:49

No, just when an OP sounds dodgy Tiles
