Junk mail

WIBU to put a sign on my front door requesting no junk mail & would the delivery person take any notice?

I'm sick to death of flyers, adverts, menus, charity bags etc all go immediately in the big or recycling.

Just today we've had our regular post followed by a charity bag then a flyer Angry it's ridiculous.

If the junk mail is being delivered by Royal Mail along with your regular post, you can't do a thing about it as RM are obliged to deliver it. As for flyers, charity bags and other uncommissioned stuff, it can't hurt to put up a 'No thanks' notice, but it may not help either.

OrangeJuiceandArmchairs · 13/03/2019 15:45

Oh you can actually @IndigoSpritz there's a form to complete. Hold on.

russiandwarf · 13/03/2019 15:46

I did this - I taped a note to the outside of the letterbox. It did definitely reduce what came in so it's worth a try!

Here it is Smile

Thanks for posting that link @OrangeJuiceandArmchairs I'm going to do that! I had no idea it was an option

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 13/03/2019 15:49

i did this, i no longer get the local papers but I still get the leaflet rubbish

TheFlis12345 · 13/03/2019 15:50

I have a metal sign on my letterbox saying ‘No junk mail, addressed post only’ (was a couple of quid from Amazon). It definitely reduces the amount that comes through but some flyer delivery guys just ignore it. When I questioned why to one who put flyers through just as I was opening the door, he rolled his eyes and said ‘sorry, can’t read English’ (in a clearly London accent).

sugarcubed · 13/03/2019 15:51

We have a sign on the letterbox and our junk mail has definitely reduced. It also says no cold callers and JW have stopped knocking too. A sign is worth a try.

BunsOfAnarchy · 13/03/2019 15:52

I bloody hate the these leaflets.

But there was a banging offer at a new kebab place last week and yes i did treat myself to a junk mail kofta kebab in naan with chips n drink for 2 quid.

PregnantSea · 13/03/2019 15:54

No one will take any notice of it

russiandwarf · 13/03/2019 15:54

@BunsOfAnarchy 🤣

ProperPissedOff · 13/03/2019 15:59

Thanks for the link Orange - I'll get that filled in & sent. Going to put a sign up for the non RoyalMail stuff inc no cold callers.

We've got a lovely sign from ebay that says no religious callers, no cold callers, no politicians, no junk mail, free new papers, charity collectors - basically leave us alone! It cuts 80% of the junk, and if anyone does try to sell me something I just point at the sign. And when we have a temp postman who delivers the royal mail junk there is so much of it! Remember you need to redo the RM opt-out every now and then.

EvaHarknessRose · 13/03/2019 16:20

I think the government should ban it on environmental grounds. It can't benefit companies that much.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 13/03/2019 16:28

Also all the extraneous crap that falls out of magazines and newspapers should be banned. Especially if it means that they have to put it all in a plastic bag as well 🙄
