AIBU to want a decent non alcoholic wine!

Everything I've had tastes like metallic grape juice. AIBU to want a non alcoholic wine that tastes like a decent Sauvignon blanc? All I want is a pint of the good stuff and none of the guilt!!

Sainsbos fizzy is the best IMO. No non fizzy one that I've found is nice

I confess I don’t really ‘get’ non alcoholic wines/beers etc, I’d rather just drink something nice that’s not supposed to have alcohol in

I don't get it either but I've been trying to tickle the wine itch without it and nothing is hitting the spot. Not many other options at 7 months pregnant!

I have tried a couple during my pregnancy and you are right, they are vile!

I have switched to Shloer for my end of week glass of red! It still feel odd and a bit decadent to pour myself a big glass though! Haha! One of my colleagues brought me a bottle of Nosecco this week, so I will be trying that this weekend.

They don't exist. The alcohol contributes significantly to the taste. Without it, it's just glorified grape juice.

Non alcoholic beer is a slightly better option, but only slightly. Don't get me started on Seedlip and crap like that.

I think it’s always rubbish because it’s pretending to be wine when it isn’t, if it was marketed as just a drink then maybe it would be more successful but the whole marketing as ‘wine’ doesn’t help because people expect it too taste like wine and it so doesn’t.

What about buying some nice cordial, fizzy drinks or sparkling water have in a wine glass with ice and slice of lemon/orange

An occasional glass of wine is not going to cause any problems, other than make you feel guilty.

I was in New Zealand last year and they had way, way better soft drink options than we have here. Lots of 'bitters' options that are really refreshing and not too sugary.

YABVU it's not possible, like vegan "cheese".

Gallo Spritz Raspberry & Lime low alcohol drink is actually quite nice but nothing even similar to wine, more of a low alcohol schleor

I agree they are all too sweet. There is a nice lower alchohol Sauv blanc in Coop called Slender White, that is very drinkable but it is 8%...

I've read several comments on here that claimed that seedlip was indistinguishable from a real G&T, which I find hard to believe, while others have dismissed it as stupidly expensive cordial. I'm puzzled that people can get such a different impression from the same product.

I agree that non alcoholic products are generally lacking, as the taste of alcohol is missing, so are usually too sweet. The least dispointing beer Iv'e had is a German bottled pilsner one - maybe Erdinger?

I've had a non alcoholic Old Moult cider in a pub that was quite nice, but in a refreshing drink sense, not serious alcoholic alternative. I've also tried Nosecco and that's a no thanks from me.

But if you're not drinking because you're pregnant, maybe just have a small glass of wine once a week, which will fit in with NHS guidelines of no more than 1 to 2 UK units once or twice a week. Maybe try the Co-op suggestion above, but you will need to share the bottle, or see if they do mini bottles, otherwise, it'll take the rest of your pregnancy to get through it.

On seedlip, I’m very much team stupidly expensive cordial though I’m sure that was obvious.

It retails for £28 on their website which actual extortion if you ask me. It’s not even nice cordial, it tastes like moss.

Now you see I'm the opposite on seedlip - when I have up alcohol and was really struggling at a work meal surrounded by boozing, a couple of seedlip and tonics took the craving right away.

Maybe it's like coriander.

@dragonsfire is the nosecco really like Prosecco or just nice but different? I really want to cut down on drinking but a glass at the end of a long day is just too tempting most of the time!

As a serious gin fanatic before I was pregnant who is forlornly missing an alcohol fix, I can recommend M&S no alcohol G&T. It has several of the botanicals and is sparkling which make it a nice 'treat' type drink to have as a glass of wine replacement, and is £2.50 so relatively reasonable for the price.

Wine is nice because it contains alcohol. That’s part of the reason for its taste.

It’s like wanting a decent dairy free cheese or meat free bacon 😂

I posted on another thread in Pregnancy about this last week. I had some by the brand “Ariel” at a party it tasted quite like real wine. I had a few glasses ! Can only buy it online though.
