To think all makers of joined up teabags should be arrested

So I've just made a cup of tea using a teabag from a certain yorkshire based tea company. They sell their teabags in pairs that must be separated by before use.

The joy of the tea-making process is violated by a crushing panic that one or both of the teabags will tear.

Am I being unreasonable to think the designers, and company directors, should be immediately arrested for gross indecency?

Yup. Wholeheartedly agree.

Halloumimuffin · 11/03/2019 16:29

My DP only likes Yorkshire Tea and the join annoys me so much...I feel like I can't make a single cup for myself because then I have an odd single bag!

I'm aware this is a bit loopy.

Happycow · 11/03/2019 16:29

Totally agree - who needs that kind of stress and uncertainty??

Mind you i think the same of those handcream companies that use a screw-cap rather than a flip cap. In this day and age! I dont need the slippery hand/ screw cap fumble when i could just slap a flip-cap against my thigh and be done.

greenelephantscarf · 11/03/2019 16:29

yabu
use both bags to make a nice strong cuppa.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 11/03/2019 16:30

YABU. Chillax.

Fatted · 11/03/2019 16:32

I refuse to buy teabags that are not pyramid shaped. Flat tea bags are inferior.

Vargas · 11/03/2019 16:32

Another famous tea company do this too. I get round it by carefully separating the doubled up bags before placing in special air tight tea container. It is not one of my favourite chores.

When I become PM I will bring back hanging just for these tea executives.

QuirkyQuark · 11/03/2019 16:33

Yanbu, I drink the same brand and get very nervous ripping them apart.

Arrest them and throw them in the tower.

Crimebustersofthesea · 11/03/2019 16:34

I once actually emailed Yorkshire tea to ask why they do this after a discussion with colleagues (it was a slow day at work Grin). They sent me a very nice reply, something to do with packaging I think. I don't have the email anymore as I don't work at the same place, possibly because i spent my time emailing tea companies about their packaging policies...

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 11/03/2019 16:35

When I open a new box of teabags I grab the tea bags in both hands and pull them apart in handfuls to drop into my counter top canister. I’ve honestly never had a single bag tear.....

I use Yorkshire tea.

GahWhatever · 11/03/2019 16:37

Separate them all when you first open the box and decant into a sealed caddy. It's the only way!

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2019 16:37

DH drinks tea pigs posh tea. The bags are pyramids on a bit of string and as well as being attached at the top, the string is also attached to the bag elsewhere. Non careful separation of the string from bag, which does need to eb done, can lead to ripping of the bag. And they're probably about 50p each.

VenetiaHall · 11/03/2019 16:37

I love tearing them apart! It's so satisfying! Blush

BeerandBiscuits · 11/03/2019 16:38

YABU. I enjoy separating out all the tea bags before putting in the tea caddy, strangely relaxing.

Malibucyprus · 11/03/2019 16:38

I think there’s a bad batch of Yorkshire tea doing the rounds, I’ve used them for years and never had a problem. Just lately every other bag breaks, I didn’t notice earlier on today and had a mouth full 🤢

TheDogsMother · 11/03/2019 16:39

I also use those teabags and this worry had never crossed my mind. It will now 😳

This is what I do too. Barry’s tea here though (Ireland).

Yes, I think there is. My grandmother complained to YT and got a load of free tea bags.

LaBelleSauvage · 11/03/2019 16:43

TheDogsMother I'm sorry to have introduced this likely entirely unfounded fear to your life

OP posts:
thecatsthecats · 11/03/2019 16:44

Noooo. When you're refilling the tea caddy, you pick up a nice handful from the cupboard and pop them all apart in one satisfying tear. If one breaks then, so be it.

Then all the whole ones are ready in the jar. It's a totally separate process to making tea.

2birds1stone · 11/03/2019 16:45

There is known issue with the glue used to seal Yorkshire tea bags. They tried to change the glue so that it didn't contain plastic but it didn't work.

Write to Yorkshire tea with the batch details off the box. They should send you a voucher as a minimum.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 11/03/2019 16:50

I also love separating them. It's akin to putting the teaspoon through the top of the new jar of coffee for me.

We get our Yorkshire tea from CostCo in massive catering packs and I'm still terrified we might run out!

EvaHarknessRose · 11/03/2019 16:52

This is a petition I could definitely get behind. (Possibly have my political priorities wrong).

SabineUndine · 11/03/2019 16:55

I hate this. I always separate them as soon as I get them and tear a couple in the process and make a mess and swear. Nylon bags-on-a-string are rubbish too though.

SachaStark · 11/03/2019 16:56

Totally agree with this. Twinings are guilty of this as well. Such a waste of two seconds in the morning (don't they know I am in a perpetual great hurry?!) when I want my English Breakfast.

I now put aside five minutes after shopping to pre-tear the entire box of conjoined-tea-twins as it irritates me so much.
