To think all makers of joined up teabags should be arrested

So I've just made a cup of tea using a teabag from a certain yorkshire based tea company. They sell their teabags in pairs that must be separated by before use.

The joy of the tea-making process is violated by a crushing panic that one or both of the teabags will tear.

Am I being unreasonable to think the designers, and company directors, should be immediately arrested for gross indecency?

The80sweregreat yes! they are shit now.we were clearing some stuff out and literally could fit nothing of substance I nthem before the split.and don't get me started on the leaky crap if you dare to fill your kitchen bin slightly too much!boak.

kateandme · 12/03/2019 21:28

oh just to point out to all the Yorkshire lovers you are all aware of the mahoosive bags.like a two foot bag you can get from cosco right?

User12879923378 · 12/03/2019 21:30

I separate them all in one glorious go. You've just got to grade the force correctly. I actively look forward to filling up the tea jar.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 12/03/2019 21:35

Yorkshire Gold is by far the best followed by Barry's

PandaSky · 12/03/2019 21:44

Go on Op, try doing the en masse trick. It's a life hack that will blow your mind! I do this but put them back in the box. I don't bother with a caddy.

Do Costco do the decaf ones? I currrntly buy decaf in bulk off amazon.

Burlea · 12/03/2019 21:49

I'll give you a funny story about tea bags.
When DH first started work (before he met me) he was asked to make the tea for 4 men. You have to understand that his mum treated him like a god so had never did it before.
He boiled the kettle, put sugar in, put milk in the mugs and CUT 2 tea bags in half and put the half straight in the mugs. When asked why as his mum used tea leafs and there was no teapot he thought he would improvise.

GrumpyOldMare · 12/03/2019 22:01

Is it just me that hates Yorkshire tea anyway

No. Give me a proper mug of Tetley or PG Tips instead. Much nicer.

Aragog · 12/03/2019 22:04

When I open a new box of teabags I grab the tea bags in both hands and pull them apart in handfuls to drop into my counter top canister. I’ve honestly never had a single bag tear.

I use Yorkshire tea.

Pretty much same here. I take them out of the box when they arrive, tear them in half sandpit in tea tin. Never had any tear. Same brand, both decaf and caffeinated.

gobbin · 12/03/2019 22:28

Sainsbury’s Red Label - no joins, 480 massive bag lasts aaaaages. Epic 😎

LewesHamilton · 12/03/2019 23:26

Yes to the Costco mahoosive bag of Yorkshire teabags. And also their bin bags in a box which aren't connected but are wrapped to neatly come out one at a time, and have the fancy pull-top thingie to seal off the bag and tie in a bow. Very satisfying.

LaBelleSauvage · 12/03/2019 23:36

Thank you all for your posts!

I shall try the en masse method and see if it quells my uncontrollable teabag rage.

...but I shall also continue to wish ill upon ths makers....

But tearing teabags apart is almost as satisfying as breaking the foil cover on a coffee jar! YABVVU!

BeachtheButler · 13/03/2019 00:32

Oh yes. do them in a bunch - don't try it individually.

This ^^ if you do it in big stacks/handfuls when filling the tea caddy then not a single one tears just literally big stack in either hand and pull away form each other.

It’s when they’re done individually they tear - and then usually the force of one of the torn bags coming away in one hand and the full back+tuft in the other it flicks upwards and gets tea grains every bloody where.

e1y1 · 13/03/2019 02:33

*from not form and bag not back

Tinkerbell456 · 13/03/2019 03:00

I think the OP’s position is very reasonable. Also, tougher sentences for anyone involved in the manufacture of ring pull cans whose ringpull thingy breaks off. Ever.

Tinkerbell456 · 13/03/2019 03:03

Life without possibility of parole if their hapless victim has no can opener- it’s an aggravating factor in the crime.

Ineedachange · 13/03/2019 03:12

Pulling a big batch apart makes me feel almost as good as squeezing blackheads.
Pity my 15 year old DD, who is prone to the odd juicy blackhead, doesn't think so too
