To think all makers of joined up teabags should be arrested

LaBelleSauvage · 11/03/2019 16:26

So I've just made a cup of tea using a teabag from a certain yorkshire based tea company. They sell their teabags in pairs that must be separated by before use.

The joy of the tea-making process is violated by a crushing panic that one or both of the teabags will tear.

Am I being unreasonable to think the designers, and company directors, should be immediately arrested for gross indecency?

Humani tea! Very good.

These ' bad ' boxes ; I bet they are being sold in pound stretchers or b and m type places ( where I go)
They get all the dodgy stuff ' out the back'
Waitrose / up market stores doesn't deal in dodgy tea bags.
Oh no.

JenniferJareau · 11/03/2019 18:16

I am firmly in the open packet, rip apart and decant into suitable receptacle brigade.

Can I add into the 'arrested' group those that make sandwiches which only have the filling at the front? When you actually open the sandwich there is 2 rocket leaves and a tiny piece of tomato in the the back two thirds of the sandwich.

Threewheeler1 · 11/03/2019 18:19

YY - Jennifer to the half filled sandwiches.
Also like to add whole rolls of black bin bags with no perforations to tear them apart.

HoraceCope · 11/03/2019 18:20

yanbu, you might tear a teabag, what a waste

HoraceCope · 11/03/2019 18:22

I dont have a metal tea caddy because they leave marks on the counter. i have a china one

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 18:23

Black sacks that refuse to tear where they should are also a candidate for ' room 101'
Most packaging is awful these days: hard to tear , hard to open without tools out the garage in some cases!
Ring pull cans are good though.

Dodie66 · 11/03/2019 18:31

Scissors

UnicornRainbowsRain · 11/03/2019 18:35

Is it just me that hates Yorkshire tea anyway? Grin

MitziK · 11/03/2019 18:43

Totally unreasonable.

They need to be taken out and shot.

MummaGiles · 11/03/2019 18:44

I separate joined up tea bags in huge piles. Actually much less likely to tear that way. And you’re only doing it once rather than every second cup.

Whitelisbon · 11/03/2019 19:57

The bastard who made the bin bags we bought last week needs tying to a heavy thing and thrown in the canal.
Every second bag on the roll was sealed at both ends. It was like one of those "how to confuse an idiot" things.
And every other bag was open at both ends. Which I didn't realise every time until something landed on my feet.
I launched the second half of the roll in the wheelie bin after sweeping the floor, pouring the rubbish into the bag, and it ending up all over my feet and the floor again. I may have called it a few unsavoury names too.

SweetieJar · 11/03/2019 19:59

I hate it too UnicornRainbowsRain. It has a horrible aftertaste.

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 20:00

Bin bags ain't what they used to be!

Whynham · 11/03/2019 20:14

All tea bags are the work of the devil.

Loose leaf ftw!

DontCallMeShitley · 11/03/2019 20:29

I also use the aforementioned Yorkshite tea bags, only because I can't find anything else that doesn't taste worse though. They seem to have changed flavour recently and more chemically or maybe it is some kind of bug spray.

I tear them very carefully when decanting into the storage tin. However, a few weeks ago I had a pack that not been sealed properly on the sides of the bags. It wasn't the middle join where they are perforated, it was an actual side seam. Neither was it every bag, so I never knew if I would get a mouthful of floor sweepings in my mug or whether it would stay in the bag.

Their loose tea is rubbish, mostly dust which escapes through the holes in the infuser and also tastes bitter and chemically. I really need to find something from a different part of the country.

burblish · 11/03/2019 20:37

Same problem with Clipper teabags - most annoying!

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2019 20:57

I did like Yorkshire tea a lot but PG tips were on special the other week and they tasted alright and no stress about separating the bags.

ScrommidgeClaryAndSpunt · 11/03/2019 21:04

Arrested? YABU, OP. They should be set on fire.

Pinkbells · 12/03/2019 16:49

Twinings Earl Grey is like that. But if you separate them in a whole bunch they rarely tear. Infuriating when they do, though!

spiderlight · 12/03/2019 17:09

Carefully separating the bags en masse as soon as you open the box is the best bit! A gentle folding action is all that's needed and they all come apart in a wonderfully satisfying way.

Bluetrews25 · 12/03/2019 18:46

Aldi 'herbal' ones are like this too.
I do them all at the start, working from top to bottom, just 'part the waves' going down the box without removing any from the box.
Pulling out a few at a time to separate would often result in a bag rip.
This is why I often go for a hot squash instead. Wink
as the actress said to the bishop

VenetiaHall · 12/03/2019 20:04

If you don't mind tearing them, M&S teabags are bloody lovely. The ones in the yellow box are my favourite but they are all good and they are fairtrade.

mymugmytea · 12/03/2019 20:09

I always remember when DS was little he used to help me put the shopping away
oh how times change
Anyway, I asked DS to put the tea in the canister, when I turned round he was ripping open every tea bag and pouring the lose tea in the cannisterGrin

MrsPoo · 12/03/2019 20:55

There is a bad batch of Yorkshire Tea Bags out there doing the rounds at the moment...if you're sick of them bursting after one stir of the spoon, ring up the customer service number on the box.
They take a note of your complaint and send you a large 240 box as a sorry for the floating tea leaves !

kateandme · 12/03/2019 21:24

yes the sacrfices have to be made my friends...because...they are the only tea bags to have.no other tea tastes as good.
no no no need to disagree with me.on this I know I am right :)
