Can I do anything about this?

One of my neighbours has some sort of business or hobby that involves using powertools for most of the day during the week.

It sounds like a chainsaw or electric sander or something and he uses it most of the day from around 10am onwards. I understand these arent antisocial hours but its driving me up the fucking wall when I'm at home during the day.

I don't know them and they stay a few doors up from me but houses are close together so the noise is intrusive. I can hear it with my windows closed, television/ music on etc.

We live near a busy road and a flight path so used to loud background noise but this is way more intrusive. Can I do anything if its during the day?

Noise cancelling head phones or very loud took albums is all I can think of

Does he have a licence to run a business from domestic premises ?

MeltyTalented · 11/03/2019 11:03

I don't know for a fact that its definitely a business - I just know he sits in his shed doing whatever it is. Past retirement age as well so it cpuld be a hobby.

I think if it’s so loud that it’s intrusive, then the council would be interested, even though it’s during the day.
I suppose you should ask him to stop first though.

Why not just knock on the door and explain? See what he is doing , e plain about the noise. They may not realise

MyKingdomForBrie · 11/03/2019 11:18

Yeah I would go and knock, if he's doing it in the shed soundproofing might help and he might be willing to do this if he's reasonable.
