Is everything offensive these days?

So after the Spoonsing event not log ago, here I am again wanting to know if IABU. This time it’s clorhong.

I was in a (totally different pub chain) pub today having a drink for a family get together. I was wearing a Hobgoblin T-shirt (attached is a pic of it from their website). I wa a washing my hands in the ladies and a woman started having a go about how I was setting a bad example for her daughter by wearing an alcohol t-shirt with a demon on it.

In a Pub.

That sells Hobgoblin.

She seemed offended that I shrugged her off and walked away and followed telling me I shouldn’t be walking round in clothing like that where children could see because I might influence them.
So WIBU to wear a t shirt like that, in a pub that serves the very beer, when I was out with family and friends? Or is everything offensive these days?

I'm offended that you're asking tbh.

I went to B&Q today wearing a hoodie with the word 'shit' on it, accompanied by my 6yo son. I think I was more offensive than you Grin

BertrandRussell · 10/03/2019 17:02

No, not everything is offensive these days.

Yes, the woman was bonkers

Spiderbanana · 10/03/2019 17:03

Surely it is a good example to show drink as the devil to kids Grin

SurgeHopper · 10/03/2019 17:04

Yeah she's a nutter

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 10/03/2019 17:04

The woman was totally bonkers.

That t-shirt isn't even offensive.

werideatdawn · 10/03/2019 17:05

She's just a dick

WhoTFIsAlanBrazil · 10/03/2019 17:07

Things aren't any more offensive nowadays than previously.

The woman was clearly batshit though

Sparklesocks · 10/03/2019 17:08

I wouldn’t take one example from one woman and apply it to meaning everything is offensive to everyone.

AleFailTrail · 10/03/2019 17:11

I know @Sparklesocks, TBH I was using a bit of hyperbole in my OP, just feels sometimes like you can’t have any fun in case you offend someone. I also have GAD so people like her make it harder for me to go out.

The problem is because of the cultural Marxism that’s permeating every part of our society people think they have the right to control how others express themselves even when it’s something as innocuous as op’s real ale t-shirt.

topcat2014 · 10/03/2019 17:16

I like the hobgoblin graphics. Sounds like the woman is one of those "freedom of expression only goes one way" people feeling no compunction in spouting her particular brand of fairy tales to you.

Mind you, toilets knock you off guard and you don't always think straight.

I (male) was using the urinals in a busy pub, then found myself apologising when a gang of women came in - presumably the ladies toilets were busy.

BertrandRussell · 10/03/2019 17:16

“as using a bit of hyperbole in my OP,”
I did wonder whether this actually happened.

PiebaldHamster · 10/03/2019 17:16

She took her kid to a drinking establishment and then had a go at your for wearing a tshirt that advertises the wares sold in there? She's batshit.

PiebaldHamster · 10/03/2019 17:18

More plausible than the McDonald's burger in a vegan restaurant thread, though, Bertrand Wink

krankykittykat · 10/03/2019 17:21

I think she needs go get a life. Wtf is wrong with people.

It never happened, people. what makes you so sure?

Hippopotas · 10/03/2019 17:29

She’s nuts because hobgoblin and all wychwood beers are awesome as is their artwork.

Dahlietta · 10/03/2019 17:34

Obviously the scenario you describe is absurd, but to answer your question: most things that are deemed 'offensive' now have always been offensive, but people were taught that they should put up with crappy things that people said to them, normally because they were some sort of minority group and shouldn't expect people to be in any way sensitive towards their feelings. Now people are allowed by society to call out twattish things which are said to them. This of course means that some people go too far and call out things that are not really twattish. I still prefer this setup though.

woollyheart · 10/03/2019 17:37

Why was she in a pub toilet if she doesn't want her daughter to see anything connected to alcohol?

SpenglerOswald · 10/03/2019 17:42

This of course means that some people go too far and call out things that are not really twattish. I still prefer this setup though. I prefer freedom of speech to the thought police thx

The woman was obviously one of the all too many people offended by absolutely everything these days and it's their life's work to seek out the most tenuous of reasons. They are also mostly hard of thinking so pointless arguing with them.

AleFailTrail · 10/03/2019 18:43

It did happen, was a bit annoying at the time to say the least. I have a load of Wychwood beer t shirts (and beers!).
I do wonder why she went to a pub with her kids though. Eh, they do a very nice Sunday roast so I’m guessing food. The hyperbole was the ‘everything offensive’ part. I know you can’t please all of the people all of the time
