to be absolutely disgusted that the NAS got a petty penalty rather than charges brought against those committing abuse?

I know as a parent of a child with ASD/LDs children (or adults) with these conditions don't count as much these days but this must be a new low. I have a child that will need lifelong 24/7 care and it just makes me so worried about what will happen to DC when I am gone.

A report found staff made a man crawl on all fours, threw cake at another and used residents' money to buy meals.

The National Autistic Society (NAS), which ran the home, has now agreed to pay a £4,000 fixed penalty notice.

YANBU that's absolutely beyond vile.

BollocksToBrexit · 10/03/2019 14:06

It's disgusting but not surprising. The NAS does not serve the needs of autistic people, it never has. It's purpose is to make life easier for poor NT people who find themselves burdened with one of us.

As an autistic person I can honestly say that I fucking hate the NAS.

That's shocking. I remember reading the documentation and review of this a while back and it makes for scary reading.
Whilst of course the main punishment should be reserved for those who committed the offences, the NAS had a responsibility to oversee and ensure both patients and staff were correct and protected - which they've evidently failed to do, and should be liable for more than £4k
