to delete my old Amazon ebooks?

OK random question but I'm wondering what opinions are.

I have heaps and heaps of ebooks I've bought on Amazon for my Kindle. Lots of them are great and I want to keep them. Others were crap and I couldn't get through them, or I've read them once and know that I won't read them again.

WIBU to delete the ones that I really really don't want? Delete them from my account I mean, so I no longer own them. On the one hand you could say why would you do that, they're not taking up any room in the house. But I feel like the electronic clutter is annoying, especially when I go to find something on my Kindle and I see all these books that were frankly quite shit, or books that I enjoyed but won't read again. The literary equivalent of a fun but forgettable movie.

What do you think? And yes this is my biggest problem this evening, so I do consider myself very lucky

I do this! You wouldn’t keep a physical book that you know you won’t read again, so why keep an ebook? Like you, I don’t like the ‘clutter’.

Yep just delete them

Or if for some reason you’re hanging onto them you can just delete them off your device, so you still own them and just have to go through your amazon account to redowload them This way you don’t see them when you go through your list

I delete books from the device when I've read them, or decided not to for whatever reason. I still own them though, and could download them if needed.

I delete everything I’ve read from my kindle whether I loved or hated it. The purchase is stored somewhere in the Amazon cloud so you can always download a deleted book for free again through the store if you change your mind.

I've deleted stuff from my account when it's particularly annoyed me. What's the point in keeping it on your account if you're never going to download it again?

It affects no one but you, so do whatever makes you happier.

If getting rid of books you’ll never read again makes it easier to find the ones you actually like then do it. Do the Marie Kondo thing of “does it bring you joy?” And if clearer virtual bookshelves bring you more joy than some of the books on them then get rid

Can you organise the books in collections, with a separate folder for books you don't think you'll want to read again? That will reduce the clutter, and you won't have to see them, but you'll still have them in case one day you want to revisit them. Sometimes a fun but forgettable book is just the thing if you're not feeling well, or you've got a lot on your mind.

With paper books, if you give them away, someone else benefits. Deleting an ebook doesn't benefit anyone.

What I mean is actually deleting them from my Amazon account, not just from the Kindle. You can delete them permanently so that you no longer own them.

I delete books I've read, and I have no qualms about deleting a book if I get to 15% and I'm not gripped. Otherwise trying to choose what I'm going to read next means scrolling through over a thousand titles (most are free downloads via Book Bub/Book Hippo/Bookzzle)

Would it still say that you've bought them on the amazon page, though? Because if not, you're in danger of buying and downloading the same book again and that would be extra annoying. Because obviously there was some reason you bought it in the first place, so if you forget about the book you could easily fall for it again.

Yes it still says that you bought it on the Amazon page (I know this because I once deleted a book that was so completely crap that it made me angry ). On the book's page it says that you bought it and the date, with a link to the price details.

Why would you want to do that though? Just delete it from your device.
