Im so bloody bored! I work shifts so get random days off. Im late 30s daughter away at uni, partner works shits. When im at work im desperate for my days off, but when they come im restless and unhappy.
Today ive been off, had lie in done house work, took dog out, but just feel when im home so miserable.
I see friends but not often, have a few nights out a month, shopping ect but have days where im so fed up!
What can i do?

It sounds like you need a hobby. I felt exactly like that, then I got back into horse riding, which solved the problem. Is there something you fancy doing, to fill your spare time?

Tucobenedicto · 08/03/2019 19:40

What about a hobby...or maybe do a bit of volunteering for a few hours somewhere.

bellalou1234 · 08/03/2019 19:45

I was thinking of doing some riding lessons. I used to be mad on horses in my younger years. Ill look into that. I was thinking of joining a gym, but think on my own ill be boring. I think i need more friends, most of my friends have younger children.

Yoga? Swimming? Volunteer work? Buy a bike and join a cycling club? Paint? Learn a language? Study? Garden? Join a book club? Get your scuba diving ticket and then book exotic diving holidays to the Maldives.

Hey OP ....how about some spelling classes...partner works shits, helping the himless....Grin. But joking aside, I started going to the gym when I split with ex to fill my evenings on my own but now I love going on my own. Give it a try.

sport, studying, art, music, volunteering. I only ever get bored when I have something I really need to do but I am procrastinating, so I don't really understand.

I think what you need is a goal of some kind, so sport/diploma/a project where you see progress. You have the luxury to be able to do anything from training for a marathon to learning the a foreign language or the flute, getting a degree in something or starting an upcycling hobby.

Princessmushroom · 08/03/2019 20:08

Definitely sounds like you could do with a hobby. Are there any local groups you could join?

I’m a workaholic and working on taking more time for me. I go swimming, go to the cinema (even on my own!), go to coffee shops, read, listen to audiobooks and do crafts. I try to have ‘productive rest’ that isn’t just watching Netflix. Although I do my fair share of that!

Babyfoal · 08/03/2019 20:21

Volunteer at a horse sanctuary.

OKhitmewithit · 08/03/2019 20:27

Or start drinking, def takes the edge off Grin

bellalou1234 · 08/03/2019 20:31

Babyfoal that sounds lush. Do you know any up north?
Wine and utube does take edge off.

Ask in the Tack Room and I'm sure someone would know of some. I know some great ones in the South!

Whynham · 08/03/2019 20:36

Make plans to do things for your days off so you don't spend most of the morning faffing about on cleaning/boring house stuff or trying to think of things to do otherwise by lunchtime they'll be no time to do the things you want to do.
