The Tesco's chicken curry & sweet and sour & egg fried rice & noodles £2 supermarket meal-for-1 Chinese style microwaveable ready meal tastes EXACTLY as you would expect a £2 supermarket meal-for-1 Chinese style microwaveable ready meal to taste.
"I can't believe they let me put that in my mouth.

Witchofzog · 08/03/2019 13:54

Well no one made you eat it Grin They are never going to be authentic. Especially not at that price

ColeHawlins · 08/03/2019 13:55

So authentically crap, then?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 08/03/2019 13:56

What did you expect?

missyB1 · 08/03/2019 14:05

I can’t believe you wanted to put that in your mouth!

Hoppinggreen · 08/03/2019 14:07

A Chinese friend of mine always takes the piss about “English people” who order sweet and sour anything and friend rice so with the best will in the world it was never going to be authentic

PinkHeart5914 · 08/03/2019 14:08

Ready meals aren’t really known for being authentic and certainly not the £2 ones.

They are fine if you don’t have time to cook or whatever but you can’t open one thinking all this will be authentic

winsinbin · 08/03/2019 14:14

I just read the ingredients list. It contains delicious traditional Chinese ingredients like palm oil, potato starch and bicarb. And the third largest ingredient by weight is sugar. No wonder it tastes so good.

In other news, bear defecates in forest and Pope confirms Catholic faith.

BrokenWing · 08/03/2019 14:28

I used to be a fan of ready meals in my youth but haven't had one for years until recently. I'm trying to lose some weight and thought they could be easy and useful for portion control topped up with some fresh veg.

The Tesco ones I tried were inedible - Chicken and chorizo jambalaya was more like a spicy soup with white rubber stuff in it than a rice dish. Never again, I would rather have basic/quick beans or eggs on toast.

Caveat emptor.

If you’re paying £2 for a ready meal I think that’s what you have to expect! It’s never got to taste like a real Chinese meal.
Food like that is good if you’re on a tight budget and need filling up but best to avoid if you want a higher grade of quality!

AudTheDeepMinded · 08/03/2019 14:32

I would say if you're on a budget you'd be better off with a JP and tin of beans. Ready meals are not a cheap option, convenient, yes.

Garthfield · 08/03/2019 14:33

Sharon?

BlueMerchant · 08/03/2019 14:35

Settled down to enjoy the 'authentic' Chinese meal for 1 from Tesco too one night. Putrid!
