I am posting a guitar, the box comes up to my ribs/chest area! Is it ok to walk it into the post office or am I supposed to make some one collect it?

I would worry it would get damaged

Have a look for courier companies on-line. I'm not in the UK but OH posts guitars all the time and usually pays on-line, prints out a label and then just leaves it at the post office (or other designated RDV point).
