To be concerned about diarrhoea

When would you be concerned about diarrhoea? I have endometreocis and think this is the cause but over the last 12 hours i have been arround 6 times with large ammounts of watery D. They have offten had mucus and or blood in and am unsure when the diarrhoea itself is a concern.

How urgently would you want to be seen? I tried to get an appointment yesterday for painkillers but despite ringing at 8:30 could not get a call.

I have just been again and am now feeling shakey. Assume it is dehydration but fluids just seem to flush through.

I went a couple more times today, all with mucus. I could not get a GP appointment, how urgent do you think it is?

Have you tried 111?

sleepalldays · 07/03/2019 19:46

Aw man that sucks, I had an IBS attack a week or so ago and had really bad, cramping diarrhoea twice.

Imodium sorted me out instantly. Take two and just rest, drink water.

I would also call 111 OP and they can get you seen my out of hours tonight, you may need IV fluids.

Thanks i am feeling a bit better than I an earlier and have eaten some rice cakes today. I know how busy ooh gets and dont want to waste time unless i get worse. How would i know if i needed fluids?

ssunniebear · 07/03/2019 20:38

I certainly wouldn’t be concerned after 12 hours. I had severe diarrhoea last week and everything I read suggested seeing a dr after 3 days. Mine lasted 4!

OneStepSideways · 07/03/2019 20:45

Certain types of food poisoning can cause bloody watery diarrhoea. Have you eaten anything suspect?

If it doesn't settle after a couple of days or you feel very unwell/have a high fever/signs of dehydration like sunken eyes or confusion best to see a doctor ASAP.

ssunniebear · 07/03/2019 21:01

I have not eaten anything particularly suspect and others that have eaten the same are fine. Its more the ammount of D each time which bothered me.

To prevent dehydration, buy some Dioralyte sachets, or make your own. Here's a link. www.wikihow.com/Make-an-Oral-Rehydration-Salts-Drink-(ORS)

You know if you're hydrated enough if you are seeing and it's a light colour.
If you're not vomitting as well then just eat Adams when you can.Hope it settles soon.
