Threadworms advice please

I think I have these the past few months 😭 every night I get a feeling something is moving it’s a strange sensation! I’ve checked and looked with a light but have never found anything! I’ve taken vermox on numerous occasions and the sensation might stop for a day or 2 but then back again.. I’ve treated myself for piles just in case but really don’t think it’s piles as a few minutes after I get the wriggle feeling I get a weird sensation in my vagina like a burning feeling.. only have that feeling a few mins after wriggling..
Ive cleaned like mad, I shower twice a day and so on but I think the vermox is defo not working, I’ve even taking it a few days in row!
I really don’t want to go doc with this problem as she is a friend of my husbands and I just can’t deal with the embarrassment of it all

Can you see them when you go to the toilet ? Are you taking the medication properly as in once and then a week later to kill any eggs?

No have never seen any.. but I don’t think u always do according to the info on internet.. yes I’ve taken the tablets the correct way many times

Diatomaceous Earth, food grade. This works. Kills parasites harmlessly for good.

Coconut oil a large spoon of it every day (to eat) worked for me when I had them. I was traumatised so tried everything and this worked after a couple of days.

Might be a different type of worm not threadworms? I'd ask your GP to send a stool sample to the lab.

Try taking Ovex and actually give it to the whole family as well. You can all reinfect each other. Boil wash everything, bed sheets, towels, knickers etc the eggs can last two weeks outside the body. Keep your nails super short so you can’t scratch in your sleep. It’s really easy to reinfect yourself. Ok sorry about this. They tend to be active later at night and migrate around to the vagina from the bottom. My DD6 has just had them and I saw them on her for the first time. You have to be really fast because as soon as you put light on them they go. Get a mirror and cotton wool ready before turning the light on. You’ll have a few seconds to remove them before they scarper. If you’ve treated yourself and it is thread worms you’ll probably see them in your poo. You can’t just treat yourself though - the whole family needs treating.

I’ve used Ovex and a generic tablet from Boots.

Thanks for all the advice, the thing is I’ve done everything advised apart from go to gp, I’ve treated all family none of them have symptoms.. I don’t think the meds work, I keep checking to see can I see one and never do, none in stools even after meds! I’ve read horror stories on the internet about never getting rid of them! I’m beginning to get serious anxiety over this it’s a nightmare and I can’t tell anyone in real life!

Oh bless you I felt like that! Go to the GP and see if there is anything stronger they can give you and double check it is actually worms and not something else.

You haven't mentioned cleaning the house OP, total pain of course, but to stop reinfection I believe sheets and towels need frequent hot washes, the house needs damp dusting and frequent hoovering. Probably more than that.
My house had never been so clean, and the best part was that is put a temporary stop to DH putting his hand down his pants to give his genitals a rummage all the blood time!

Sorry to ask op but is there a chance you're imagining it now? I know if you get so focused on something it can drive you mad. If no one else has symptoms it's very unlikely you have them at all.

Clean and Hoover every day and even had it professionally cleaned 2 weeks ago! I never put my hands in my mouth and I’ve developed very sore hands from all the washing of them

Bobstersmum I’ve thought that as well that maybe it’s all in my head but I don’t think it is as I’m so busy with kids some days I don’t give them a thought and then it starts again

I remember having them as a child and it’s the very same feeling, I never scratch as I’m so afraid and I’m not really that itchy it’s just a wriggle every evening maybe every half hour

Do you think that all the washing could have upset the skin round your vagina (like it has with your hands?). I second seeing the doctor about this.

Grubus I don’t think so as totally normal during day and it’s only after the wriggling starts that I get a burning sensation in vagina., I’ve akso treated myself for thrush just in case but it still happens.
Really don’t want to go to gp like is there anything she could actually do? From research there seems to be nothing stronger than vermox on the market..

I'm really sorry you are going through this, I've had threadworms several times and I know how mentally and emotionally stressful it is! I am wondering about the burning sensation, it just doesn't seem likely that it would be caused by worms.. I will tell you what happens to me every time (and I've had them 5-6 times in the last two years) - I feel the wriggling, sometimes it starts in the day, sometimes not until I'm in bed. The wriggling goes on for a while, and when it stops I know it's because the worm is through to the other side (TMI I know!!! 😩)! It turns into a tickling feeling but I can tell it's now external. I check with a mirror and sure enough there it is. If there were many or I left it, the worm may travel to the vagina area to lay eggs, but the only sensation is itchiness in my experience. I really don't know why it would burn. So is it possible the burning is something not related to the wriggling sensation, ie the worms? That would be my guess.

Finally, does the medication work for a while, do the symptoms stop and if so, for how long until reinfection?

Try taking piriton at bedtime. It might be like other pp suggested all the washing has irritated you. Also I know you say your very busy during the day but when you sit down to rest at night that's when it's happening. Maybe because that's when you start subconsciously thinking about it. You do seem very stressed about it and I cant see anything surviving everything you've done!

Hi mollycoddle77 the sensation has stopped in the past for up to 2-3 days and then back again! The last week however it hasn’t stopped at all.. I think they immune to the meds it’s all so disgusting!

Thanks bobstersmum I don’t feel at all irritated.. I can see why people think it’s in my head though as if someone told me this I would probably say the same.. and I think the doctor will say the same!

Ok. I do think the way forward for you is to go to the gp to get confirmation on whether you definitely have them. I think they'll ask you to tape your bottom hole in the morning after a wriggle, which may identify any eggs. You shouldn't struggle with this on your own! And try not to panic, it will get sorted, it did eventually for me (well so far anyway). X
