Clumsy husband

He means no harm, loves our child, accidents happen.. but when it comes to the safety of our baby it’s inexcusable and extremely worrisome.

On multiple occasions he’s tripped over things while carrying the baby, each time being inches (or less) away from accidentally killing the child! It’s terrifying and I want to know what I can do about it.

No need to comment and say not to worry - that’s not an option 😉

Just seeking practical, actionable advice.

Is he usually clumsy in day to day life or is it just when he has baby in his arms?

How is there so many things to be tripping over? Have you spoke to him about it? Is he unwell?

Optician would be my first port of call

He sounds like me, I can trip over a clean floor.

Practical advice: carry baby in something, wheel baby on something (I know people who did this), try and minimise moving around WITH baby.

At the end of the day, if it's not something he's doing deliberately, then it IS excusable. You wouldn't say it was inexcusable to have an epileptic fit while in charge of baby, would you?

You'll need to work out practical solutions, I would suggest consulting an occupational therapist. AIBU is not really a great place for disability specific advice.

Also, my mum dropped me as a baby and all I got out of it was a good story - they are somewhat more durable than they appear, so while you should minimise the risk, a drop certainly does not equal instant death.

Tidy your house so no things to trip over .
Make him go bare foot so he feel what he walking on ( what I do as I cant see well) throw slipper ill fitting shoes .
If is just clumsy person has he got dyspraxia.

Could he be dyspraxic or have vision problems? Is there a reason for falling over?

Is there a lot of clutter on the floor? Too much furniture? Or does he just not pay attention?

If he can't find a way to walk without falling over then he probably just shouldn't carry the baby around..
