To be so upset about needing to wear glasses!

Okay first world problem I know...

I went for an eye test recently and was told I need glasses. Which is fine, nothing wrong with that plenty of people do of course!

I'm not the type to care overly about how I look especially so it's not a vanity thing but I've shocked myself with how upset I am about this.

It's more because I just can't find any that I think look okay on me and it's frustrating. Every single pair I try on look ridiculous on me. DP says they look fine but I just feel so horrible about myself in them that I end up not wearing them.

I have lots of friends who wear them and they all look fab. Some of them I can't even picture them without them.

I feel really silly getting so upset about this but I just feel incredibly uncomfortable in them and just can't find the right shape or style for me at all.

I really need to start wearing them but I can't bring myself to.

Did anyone else have an uncomfortable/difficult transition stage having to start wearing glasses in adulthood? I look like a different person and I hate it.

I'm short sighted and have to wear glasses all the time. It took me 25 years of wearing glasses until I found a pair I am totally happy wearing!

I don’t wear glasses (yet) but yesterday I randomly watched a promo video for Gwen Stefani’s specs range and it made me wish I did, because they just looked so great.

Tbf though, I’m not sure the stunningness would translate to my podgy middle-aged face.

Good luck finding the perfect pair OP

It sounds like your prescription is fairly low as you say you can get by without them for the most part. What is the minus value?

Contact lenses are great and very often often far better clarity of vision than specs.

Often eyes have a degree of what is astigmatism. Many optometrists will prescribe to counter this with toric contact lenses. This adds another degree of complexity and cost.

It is often the case that despite having astigmatism which is pretty common, you can manage perfectly well with non toric lenses also known as spherical lenses. These are much simpler and easier to wear.

As an example i have astig of more than 1 dioptre in each eye but still wear spherical daily disposable CLs with no issues and clear vision.

Daily disposables are the most healthy modality for CL wear.

Extended wear lenses are more susceptible to problems and/or infections. These are the sort you take out,clean,soak,rinse,re-use.

One of the most severe of such infections is AK. You do not want to even risk getting this.

PS Asda do a very good range of specs at very fair prices..

Laser eye surgery or contacts?

I wore glasses then contacts, I then had laser eye surgery, the best money I have ever spent, my only regret is not having done sooner.

Perhaps look into it as an option OP.

Just a warning I also had laser eye surgery, it didn't last very long. After 8 years or so I was back needing glasses so I don't think I was £3000 very well spent.
