Forget Nutella. Try Gu crunchy hazelnut spread instead.

OddBodsAndGladRags · 05/03/2019 22:43

Don't use a spoon, just stick your finger in. There's no calories listed for that so they can't exist.

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 05/03/2019 23:06

Apparently there's no such thing as sustainable palm oil. According to Greenpeace and that Iceland campaign at Christmas it's all shit for the environment.

FindPrimeLorca · 05/03/2019 23:15

Heaped teaspoon of peanut butter dipped into Cadbury’s hot chocolate powder hits the spot nicely and has no palm oil if you buy the hippy 100% peanut stuff rather than SunPat.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 05/03/2019 23:19

Gu hazelnut spread is the mutt's nuts.

BiltongBetty · 05/03/2019 23:37

Well of course Nutella would say they use "sustainable" palm oil. As PP says, that is a fallacy.

Do some googling, OP. It's pretty heartbreaking. I don't want to live in a world without orangutans (I saw one in the wild once, they are just incredible) but that's where we're heading.

sushisuperstar · 05/03/2019 23:43

I quite like the side dip you get with KP choc dips...

scissorsandpen · 06/03/2019 00:00

Think I’ll be going for GU or the lower calorie one mentioned. So don’t worry keen not to damage the environment either . I did a bit of googling and greenpeace are on the comittee detailing the process Nutella and co need to do to achieve sustainability apparently GP don’t want a blanket ban. However they was a very quick google .

Nutella only arrived due to sneaky DC adding to my online shop :-)

can someone please do the testing and confirm what pp said whether Nutella is what inside rocher chocs

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 06/03/2019 05:27

@kateandme DM works for them, it is

floribunda18 · 06/03/2019 05:43

I understand chocolate spread, but it's the on bread thing I don't like. It's the same with jam. Jam and chocolate are fillings for cakes and do not belong on bread, which is savoury, and for things like cheese, eggs and Marmite.

KC225 · 06/03/2019 06:03

Nutella is kiddie crack in our house. Kids get a jar each in their Christmas stocking and a jar each on their birthday.

howwillwedeal · 06/03/2019 06:04

Nutella is the food of the devil! Luckily at 80 calories a teaspoon!

Stopandlook · 06/03/2019 06:09

scissorsandpen Ocado

Vegisgrowingwell · 06/03/2019 06:12

We've switched to the gu one due to it having no palm oil! It's lovely

BrizzleMint · 06/03/2019 06:20

Add lemon juice, the acid dissolves the calories.

MsSquiz · 06/03/2019 06:24

Gu salted caramel chocolate spread or Gu crunchy hazelnut chocolate spread beats Nutella, without a doubt. And there is no palm oil

AuntieGeek · 06/03/2019 06:29

You are all being vvvvU.

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2016/apr/07/how-to-make-the-perfect-chocolate-spread-nutella

That stuff is the bee's knees. I've made it before and it's a) easy and b) Palm oil free. No Orangs were hurt in making this stuff.

you can also control the sugar content for the sake of hyperactive kiddies or ramp it up if you're being mean. Oops

VeryLittleOwl · 06/03/2019 06:58

WWF gives Ferrero (makers of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher) 9 out of 9 for palm oil, so I'm happy to carry on eating the stuff. Pass the teaspoon...

Yogagirl123 · 06/03/2019 07:04

Stealth post I reckon! 🤣 Nutella is so expensive, we buy the Aldi version, much cheaper, my very fussy DS can’t tell the difference at all.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 06/03/2019 07:14

Apparently Nutella now only is certified sustainable palm oil .

There's no sustainable palm oil. It's a hideous thing, It destroys habitat, poisons the air because they burn off the forests to clear for palm oil production and makes whole communities dependent on a monoculture.

Don't encourage its production.

The Guardian link has a very good alternative to make at home, no palm oil and much better taste and the sugar content is adjustable.

scissorsandpen · 06/03/2019 07:18

Lol yogagirl !!

floribunda18 I agree, never liked chocolate spreads or jam on bread

TheInvestigator · 06/03/2019 12:10

@rainbowunicorn

A tablespoon of nuttella weighs more than 15g. A teaspoon it around 15g.

TheInvestigator · 06/03/2019 12:12

Although if you level it off completely then it might be closer to a tablespoon, but most people will take a heaped teaspoon and not a level one.
