To ask if anyone has had a baby at 36 weeks gestation?

I'm booked into have my baby by section on Monday or Tuesday at 36 weeks due to baby having no fluid. I've had 2 lots of steroids in preparation, but I just wanted to hear others stories who have had baby at a similar gestation. Did baby have to go to nicu? Where there any short term problems? How long did you/baby have to stay in hospital? Were they a good weight? Thank you

Dnephew was due to him stopping growing at 32 weeks. Sil had steroid injections and lots of further checks.
She was induced and had him naturally. He was 4lbs 5oz. Which was better than the 2lbs they had predicted he would be. He didn’t need to go to Nicu, although SIL did say labour was terrifying as there were so many people in the room incase nephew had to go. He just needed a heat lamp as he couldn’t regulate his temperature but they were discharged after 2 days.
He’s now a happy and healthy toddler who is the same size as his friends.

Good luck xx

And he had low blood sugar. Sorry for the split postings... This was 4 yrs ago and my memory of it all is a bit of a mess.

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 05/03/2019 17:51

DS2 was born at 36 weeks at 5lb11. We were monitored for weight gain as he was small and he had light therapy for jaundice but otherwise a healthy, very smiley boy.

Hope it goes ok Thanks

ittooshallpass · 05/03/2019 17:51

Not me, but close friend had baby at 36 weeks. Over 7lbs, no problems. Went home next day.

37 weeks exactly at 5lb12oz. Teeny but absolutely fine. Needed about an hour of oxygen and obs.

wasabiaddiction · 05/03/2019 17:53

Twins at 36 weeks.

They were small - one just below and one just above 5lb.

I had steroid injections.

They were both fine and no ICU needed.

CluedoAddict · 05/03/2019 17:53

My Dd was born by cesarean at 35 weeks. I had the steroids before. She didn't have to go to special care. Her apgar scores were perfect.

loveskaka · 05/03/2019 17:54

Gave birth at 33.3 weeks. In nicu for 4weeks. I went into labour naturally and very quickly. Had the steroid injection but gave birth 2hours later so it never managed to get through to the baby, think they want to you have had the steroid injection at least 12hours before birth and then I think you get another one?. My ds is now 14 months and running about like crazy! Started walking at 9 months! Don't worry about it ur baby will be fine and you've had all the injections etc. X

glenthebattleostrich · 05/03/2019 17:54

2 of my neices were early.

1 was 35 weeks, sister had steroids and baby was in NICU for 36 hours. She's a strapping 12 year old madam now Grin

2nd was born at 35+4. 24 hours in special care and again absolutely fine, a gobby 7 year old.

Their sister carried to 40+2 and has asthma and gets every illness known to mankind.

titchy · 05/03/2019 17:54

35+6 ds was a teeny 4lb 3oz. Fed by NGT for 3 days. Feeding was slow, and he's remained quite small (5ft 6 now aged 18), but we're a short family. No long term issues except a propensity to procrastination Angry

lau888 · 05/03/2019 17:56

My eldest was 38 weeks. They were 6lbs at birth but seemed to grow hugely after the first week. Do buy the premie nappies, if your baby is small, but try to resist premie clothes as they outgrow them so quickly. Good luck with the birth. x

happyhillock · 05/03/2019 17:58

Daughter was born at 36 weeks, my water broke, 5lb 9oz, she was tiny and absolutely fine,

Good Luck.

Inniu · 05/03/2019 17:58

Twins born at 35+2 brought to NICU and sent back to me 20 minutes later as they didn’t need to be there. They are healthy 14 year olds now.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 05/03/2019 18:02

Both at 35+5, one was 7lb 10 and the other was 5lb 10 , both had a two week stay as they had rhesus syndrome and jaundice.

One is now 6' 5 and the other 6' 2, both grammar school kids, one late summer baby.

BalthazarImpresario · 05/03/2019 18:05

Yep, dc2 was born at 36+3 I think... No steps, pre eclampsia danced around by weekend locums, consultant ordered induction same day as he was back. She was and has been fine, I've never adjusted anything re age, feeding, weight. She was 7lb 11!!!!
Stayed in for 2 nights due to my BP and getting meds for me sorted.

BalthazarImpresario · 05/03/2019 18:07

Steps? Steroids (please mumsnet give us an edit feature)

Exhaustedmummy1811 · 05/03/2019 18:09

Thank you so much ladies, this is all very reassuring. The last few weeks have been very stressful with lots of monitoring, what's ifs and changes to care plans. The end is finally in sight and I just want this over now. But I've been panicking about how the section recovery and how baby will cope with being a preemie, so this is helping put myind at rest thank you

My son was born at 36 weeks on the dot - came out at a whopping 7lbs 4oz, and thankfully had no time in the NICU, although he did have slightly wobbly blood sugar levels for a day or two and a little trouble gaining weight to start with. No problem with that now - he's six months old and a complete giant Grin Good luck to both you and your little one Thanks

Fiveredbricks · 05/03/2019 18:14

36 is term for a lot of Mums so baby will be fine

HungryHippoMummy · 05/03/2019 18:19

We made it just to 37 weeks so technically term but "early" still (and tiny at only just over 5lb). The only problem we had was feeding, she just couldn't latch (partly because of her size). Good luck, and don't worry too much, 36 weeks is so close to term - but also don't stress yourself out too much if things like feeding are more challenging.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 05/03/2019 18:24

DD born at 34 weeks due to pre eclampsia. Steroid injections just before emergency C-section. Weighed almost exactly 5 lbs. NICU for 24 hours, SCBU for 7 days, then on the ward with me for a couple more days before home.

Now a teenager - has worn glasses all her life but that's been the only side-effect (and this may or may not be due to being prem).

Hearthside · 05/03/2019 18:24

Yes i did ,my DD born induced at 36wks due to severe pre eclampsia. I was in hospital for nearly 2mths before she was born and she was in an incubator for a week after she was born as she was just touching 5lb.She was a terror at feeds and went down to 4lb but fast forward to pre teen and she is tall ,clever and eats me out of house and home Grin.

ScafellPoke · 05/03/2019 18:40

36 weeks spot on and suffactant still on lungs so 10 days in scbu, also due to jaundice.

Siameasy · 05/03/2019 18:41

36 plus five
7lb 2 but jaundiced. Bfing was hard as she couldn’t latch. She was too tired. We did go to a special unit where they helped me establish breastfeeding. This was a pretty harrowing experience involving me getting very little sleep and expressing into syringes but we made it and BF till 3 yr. stayed a week I think.

PumpkinPie2016 · 05/03/2019 18:41

I was born, 32 years ago at 34 weeks gestation because the cord was around my neck. My mum had steroid injections.

I was born weighing 6lb and 7oz Shock and healthy. Bit of oxygen at birth but no special care.

I went home a few days later.

It must seem scary right now but many babies are born at that stage and are absolutely fine.

Best of luck x
