If I name my baby a similar name to my friends teen?

Been looking at lists of baby names forever and had been fairly set on names beginning with c for some reason (mainly to go with the surname)

about a month ago I asked my partner to look at a list online as I had ended up fed up of him knocking back my suggestions and within about 20 seconds he said Casi! I like that. He had previously said Chloe but I said although I like that name I wanted something less popular.

As soon as he said Casi I was like how have I not seen that as I love it. Started looking at all the different spellings Cassie, Cassia (different name I know) etc. Still not sure which I prefer but I am 100% settled with this name.

Then I remembered my friends teens name is Kaycie and my anxiety kicked in thinking oh what if she thinks this is basically the same name and I am copying.

What do you think? Am I just over thinking?

Absolutely fine. Kaycie and Cassie/Cassia are two completely different names.

I like Casi and Cari, definitely not similar to your friend's daughters name.

Overthinking! They aren't the same name and it wouldn't matter even if they were. I plan to name my hopefully future daughter Cassie

Definitely go with Cassie/Cassia over Casi though... Much nicer.

Have you thought about Cassandra as a longer version for the birth certificate?

Cassie is a totally different name and nice. Casi would be pronounced same as Kayci and to be honest I don’t like it at all.

Yeah I did think about having Cassandra on the birth certificate but I am unsure. I don't want schools to end up insisting on calling her Cassandra when shes been used to Cassie.

School won't call her anything other than what you tell them to call her. Cassandra/Cassie is lovely -- Kaycie (I assume a 'variant' spelling of Casey?) is absolutely awful, and it wouldn't occur to me for a second to connect them.

You aren't just naming a baby, you're naming a future grown woman. Please use Cassandra on the bc. Worrying about school is just silly. That won't happen.

School will call her by whatever name she wants to be called.

Half my daughter’s class is made up of Katherines known as Katie or Georgina’s known as Georgie.

Cassandra is a much more grown up name and would suit a professiona career. She will be an adult far longer than she is a child.

I don't buy into this 'you can't name your kid a certain name coz your cousin, sister, mate, has a kid with that name' bullshit. I will name my kid what I want.

Casi is the Welsh spelling of Cassie and pronounced exactly the same windingstreams - you might find yourself correcting people if you’re not in Wales though,OP.

Yeah as soon as we seen Casi we immediately agreed on Cassie as Casi could be interpreted in few different ways. But Cassie is definitely the one.

It’s not a unique spelling ItStartedWithAKiss241 - it’s Welsh and in Wales it’s a fairly common name. More prevalent here than the English spelling. I know more than one Casi.

Casi - pronounced "ka-see" means almost in Spanish.

I get the whole naming them a "grown up" name thing but I don't see what's wrong with Cassie as an adult name either. I may still use Cassandra on the birth certificate but mainly because I have heard someone called Cassie say she wished she had that option. (may have been on here from a previous thread not sure)

I also think Cassie is the nicest one. School will call your dd by the name you choose / she chooses. There is usually a section saying “preferred name” or some such.

I have never known - in my entire life - ANYone pronounce CASI as KHAZI.

I think I would prefer using Cassidy on her birth certificate but calling her Cassie.

Cassandra is much better for Birth Certificate IMO.

In my 40s, I reverted to the full old fashioned and a bit staid version of my name that appears on my BC.

In my 20s and even 30s I never thought it would be my name, but it really suits the middle aged me...
