If I name my baby a similar name to my friends teen?

Been looking at lists of baby names forever and had been fairly set on names beginning with c for some reason (mainly to go with the surname)

about a month ago I asked my partner to look at a list online as I had ended up fed up of him knocking back my suggestions and within about 20 seconds he said Casi! I like that. He had previously said Chloe but I said although I like that name I wanted something less popular.

As soon as he said Casi I was like how have I not seen that as I love it. Started looking at all the different spellings Cassie, Cassia (different name I know) etc. Still not sure which I prefer but I am 100% settled with this name.

Then I remembered my friends teens name is Kaycie and my anxiety kicked in thinking oh what if she thinks this is basically the same name and I am copying.

What do you think? Am I just over thinking?

Giving a shortened name doesn't give any options and also, in my experience leads to people looking at you a bit oddly when you are asked to give your name in any formal situation etc.- as if you don't understand that they have asked you for your full name , and even questioning whether you mean the long version of your name.
You then end up explaining that it is in fact your 'actual' name and it is a bit embarrassing all round tbh

As someone with a ‘shortened’ name, (I have a ‘proper’ name on my bc, that I never go by. As in, most people don’t even know that long version is my ‘real’ name) I have never experienced this. In my entire life.
I introduce myself as x, people say hi, nice to meet you x. You must know some odd and rude people

The shortened name vs the long name thing - some names sound like a full name - eg Liam, Jack, John, Sam - I wouldn't automatically expect those people to have a longer name, although also wouldn't be surprised if they said actually my full name is William/Jonathan/Samuel... Other names sound like a shortening - so I would be surprised if Phil wasn't a Philip, Liz wasn't an Elizabeth or Matt wasn't Matthew on birth certificate.

Cassie sounds like it's short for something, not a full name in it's own right. So she is more likely to be asked. Still fine to use it if you want, but worth bearing that in mind.

Presea- I don't mean people you meet in a social setting.
I mean, for instance, on forms filled in for work, (especially work stuff actually) registering with a doctor, things like that.
I assume you use your full name for that, hence the lack of experience of dealing with this issue.

Cassandra is a fabulous name. If I was called Cassie I would feel short changed if I couldn't also use the full version.

Same for Connie and Constance, Alex and Alexandra and Beth and Elizabeth.

My daughter and son both have a short version of their name for every day use and they have no issues at school, they are always know as the short form and its on their documents etc.

From my own experience if your going to call her cassie anyway do not put a longer name on birth certificate. My son Josh is called Joshua i use both alot full name when not listening which being a boy is 75% of the time. My full name is Patricia but have always been trish or tricia. I hate people using the full version as i do not associate it with me. Also when always being trish in the doctors waiting they call for patricia and i forget its me and their looking for a granny.
