Easter Sunday - birthday party?

Is it cheeky to book my dd's party on Easter Sunday? Would this annoy you if your child was invited? Her birthday is during the week before (in the middle of the Easter holidays) and this is the only slot for the soft play party available that weekend.

Not sure if people usually have 'plans' on Easter Sunday or are likely to be away? Don't want to book it and have no-one turn up! Thoughts?

It would as it is a family day. We have the grandparents around/ roast and maybe national trust hunt.

It’s not cheeky, but likely inconvenient. It’s bang in the middle of a holiday weekend in the middle of a holiday, you could have quite a few unavailables. No chance of the weekend before or after?

Not cheeky, just be prepared for some children to not come.

For us it’s a family day and I’m not sure I’d let DC go to a party unless it was a best friend.

same sorry, we wouldn't go as it is a family day. I would also think it a bit odd to have a party on that day.

It’s available for a reason! You can book it, but I would decline if my children were invited.

It’s hugely inconvenient and your DD May become upset as I’d imagine most will decline. It’s not a huge deal for everyone but most people with children will mark the day in some way. Also never the best having a party in the school holidays.

Daft idea if you want people to attend imo.
People may be on holiday / visiting relatives / having a family get together.

Have the party the last weekend before they break up or the first weekend after they are back.

I don't like parties on a Sunday full stop. That's what Saturday is for personally...Sunday is a family day.

I wouldn’t go- we always celebrate Easter Sunday as a family so anything else is a no go

we would be available but loads wouldn't. Just depends if your DD would be disappointed if quite a few couldn't make it.
That being said my friend had her son's Christening on Easter Sunday, lots of people went.
Is it a morning time slot so people could go home and have a family lunch?

Not cheeky, but I doubt many people would be able to come.

The wife of a friend of ours arranged a "surprise" 40th birthday for her DH on Easter Saturday one year, and then proceeded to get really stroppy when none of us could make it because we had booked holidays, had visitors staying, family outings planned etc.

Wow, pretty unanimous that it's not a popular day! We're not religious and don't usually plan anything for that Sunday in particular, but it helps to know how others view it. Will try for the weekend after. Thanks all!

In my opinion it would be like booking it on boxing day and hoping people would still come.

I wouldn't do this, most people will have plans with family, so I'd only expect a small handful to turn up,which may be skewed towards those from non-Christian cultures.

I'd be a bit annoyed getting this invite tbh as I'd just feel very sorry for the child.

I think you should just pick another weekend, after the Easter holidays rather than do this.

I would probably turn this down on DD's behalf as we do church then family lunch for us Easter is important, however I would actually reply to invite with thanks but no thanks, we would not just not turn up
also remember there are lots of Easter egg hunts on that weekend. so while lots of folk no longer do religious bit of Easter plenty do the egg hunt family meal bit.

I think you are in danger of getting acceptances for 21st april then 2 days before people suddenly realising its Easter and being too busy, if you go for it; put on invites Sunday 21st April ( Easter Sunday)

my niece has a christmas eve birthday they once had her party on the day got about 7 acceptances and then on the day one by one cancellations i'm too busy with last minute stuff to bring my DD so my 5 year old niece was left with 1 friend at party not 7 it was not good ever since parties have been around 1st december or in middle of January

Thanks, good point about the Easter egg hunts Teacup. I understand it around Christmas, but I didn't really get the whole family Easter Sunday thing. For us we like to have the weekend broken up a bit if we're not going away, but glad to get other perspectives from everyone else. Have booked the following weekend (it would have been Sunday morning around 11).

This will be a recurring theme as ours dcs have their birthdays in the holidays, which is a shame as it will no doubt be hit and miss of who's around to come to parties ...

🤔 my birthday was in the Christmas week and growing up it didn’t affect my birthday parties OP, I imagine my parents simply booked far enough in advance. If you know your DD’s birthday is going to be very busy, maybe book a solid 3months+ in advance!

Definitely wouldn't go anywhere partyish at 11am on Easter Sunday morning. We'd all be in church. It's a major festival and although you may not celebrate it, many people do.

Age At least Easter moves around a bit, so presumably birthday will sometimes be in term, and sometimes just at the start/end of the holidays.

It wouldn't bother me if we werent going away, 4 days is a long time to entertain young kids and our normal weekends are usually booked up with activities that have a break over the school holidays. I never r lly understand the whole x day is a family day, over a 4 day weekend surely any of them could be a family day instead. But every family is different and I'm in the minority!

My birthday always falls on Easter. Be prepared that most people won't come. Even if not religious people often use the 4 day weekend to go away etc

My DS's Birthday also falls on Easter weekend, I've booked his party for the weekend after as worried people will be away/have family plans

It’s my 30th in Easter Sunday this year. Have her party whenever you want. For my family (none religious) Easter Sunday means nothing anyway (no more than a normal Sunday) and you may find many of your friends are the same

Ah, thanks for the encouragement everyone! I'm also an Easter baby, but I don't have friends and don't like parties, so it's never bothered me! Just don't want my dd to miss out on a social life :)

I'm sure some of her birthdays will fall close to end of term or at the start of the next term ... but I'm hoping not to have to plan parties every year for her!

I think outside of the religion thing it's the egg hunts and an Easter dinner is a big deal too for a lot of families so they pin it all to that day. We have a great day on Easter Sunday with both!!
