I am hoping to get your ideas. Feeling woefully unprepared. Help!

Spaghetti, tinned tomatoes, dried herbs, coffee, long life milk, squash, beans.

There's a preppers section on here too, which is fascinating!

Crayolaaa · 03/03/2019 19:05

Paracetomol and cat food. It needs work.

LibbyLily · 03/03/2019 19:06

Rice, pasta, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauce, tinned fruit, frozen bread, frozen peas etc.

Also several months worth of loo roll as apparently all the pulp is produced in the eu.

thecatsthecats · 03/03/2019 19:07

Tinned beans, tomatoes and fruit. Pasta and rice. Frozen meat and soft fruits. Soup. Teabags, loo roll, uht milk.

In 10 days or so I will get longer lasting fresh veggies like carrots, onions etc, which should make it past the first week of April.

Cloudtree · 03/03/2019 19:08

There are also various threads on the brexit topic.

I have extras of most things we use. Meat and dairy in the freezer plus some frozen veg. Sack of potatoes. Still need to buy lots of fruit and veg closer to the date.

PrawnOfCreation · 03/03/2019 19:15

Also got stuff to make bread, scones, flatbreads.

Loads of spices, tubes of garlic, chilli, ginger paste. Loads of sugar and syrup.

100 sanitary towels

We just use everything on rotation, nothing goes off. If Brexit goes brilliantly the stash stays, it's now my sickness/illness/bad weather insurance.

Not a full inventory but that's what I can think of from top of my head.

Kizziebel · 03/03/2019 19:15

Tins of veg, smash, a few Frey Bentos, tinned fruit, pasts, pasta sauces, pesto, tinned fish, rice, beans, tea bags, coffee and tinned desserts. I also have some essential medical bits which are imported so have over ordered in case of issues. I'm actually away for the entire month of April so fingers crossed when (if) brexit happens it will all be over with before I get back and I'll just wait smugly for the zombie apocalypse or armageddon to happen as it will take a disaster like that for me to actually consider eating smash

PrawnOfCreation · 03/03/2019 19:17

Oh and paracetamol, ibuprofen, anti histamines, plasters, ice packs, germoline, nappy cream, antacids, calamine lotion for both adults and children.

Princessmushroom · 03/03/2019 19:17

Take away menus

ShabbyAbby · 03/03/2019 19:29

I've started a medication stock pile but unfortunately my GPs won't give me my regular medicines much in advance (the most important ones) and although I have Epipens they are out of date (and can't get any in at the moment).
I have stock piled antihistamines of every kind, as well as inhalers etc. Got three different kinds of liquid antihistamine for the kids too.
I would rather run out of bog roll than, Y'know, die. Anaphylactic reactions run in my family, and I suffer, so it's bloody scary tbh. If I think about what will happen if there's even a temporary shortage of medicines my blood pressure starts to rise. Which is a shame, because they are already having an issue getting blood pressure meds.

LibbyLily · 03/03/2019 19:45

I'm a GP and lots of my patients are requesting extra medication, but we've been given strict instructions that we're not allowed to provide this, and will face penalties if we do. It's very unfortunate.

Also with the Epipens - they've been unavailable for ages now and I have no idea when they'll be back in stock. I don't think that's anything to do with Brexit though.

borntobequiet · 03/03/2019 19:50

That’s really interesting, Libby. And I expect, difficult for you.
What other guidance/information have you been given?

Mammylamb · 03/03/2019 20:00

8kg rice, 8kg pasta, 24 cans beans, 30 cans tomatoes, 4ltr uht milk, 4 packs loo roll, about 60 various veg and protein tins, 10 tins fish. Random veg in the freezer. 6kg flour (in case I need to make own bread)

Also I always batch cook so have over a months worth of food in the freezer.

All of the food will be used up regardless of whether there are food shortages caused by brexit

scattercushion17 · 03/03/2019 20:03

Gin. Prosecco. Chocolate.

Seriously, have bought some extra bits. Must buy more tonic though.

Inferiorbeing · 03/03/2019 20:04

Pasta, beans, sugar, teabags and paracetamol! Its enough to get us though around 2/3 weeks (on a very bland diet), we also stocked up on rabbit hay as we have two. However, i work in a school and him for the NHS which both will hopefully have a lot of focus on remaining with basic supplies so we should muddle though

ShabbyAbby · 03/03/2019 20:05

@LibbyLily
I know it's not connected (epipens) but it is concern if there is an issue getting medicines especially when there are already delays with some things

I have stock piled other items too because lots of skin allergies. I have to buy certain bath products, nappies, nappy cream and wipes, for example. I think honestly I will get over it if there's no milk for my coffee or no coffee even, but dealing with anything allergy wise is a worry. I don't think food will be a massive problem, tbh, but I have the whole family's toiletries sorted for a while just in case because I can only use one moisturiser, me and DC2 are allergic to most suncream etc. Etc.
It probably looks like a random stash, but I know the logic. And, actually, considering I don't have much space (or much money) I couldn't afford to stash everything, especially things that are unlikely to be an issue (like rice, we will just have pasta or potatoes even if there is a shortage) and concentrate on things that don't cost much, but will be massively stressful if I can't get hold of (medicines, toiletries, nappies)

ShabbyAbby · 03/03/2019 20:09

My next port of call is formula milk Blush
And then chocolate, obvs

Sibsmum · 03/03/2019 20:12

My friend said condoms, cos the lubricants are made in the eu, is she for real? ( nearly 50 so a box will last a yearGrin)

OP posts:
Mmmhmmm · 03/03/2019 20:13

Twinkies...obvs...

Sibsmum · 03/03/2019 20:18

Can you get powdered goat milk? I am sure I have seen uht goat milk too somewhere.
Antihistamines, we use lots, never thought to stash them, thanks for the tip

OP posts:
Hunter037 · 03/03/2019 20:18

Pasta, rice and couscous
Tinned and frozen fruit/veg
Tinned soup, lentils, beans, tuna
Frozen meat and cheese
UHT oat milk
Chocolate
Bread mix

Toiletries such as loo roll, toothpaste, shampoo

Not stacks but enough for around 2 weeks of decent meals and a further week or 2 of basic meals.

needthisthread · 03/03/2019 20:18

I have no Brexit cupboard. From what I have read on here people are buying cheap shit food and planning to make really bizarre things with it. One poster said they would use a tin of chunky soup and some dried mashed potato to make a pie Envy not envy. Someone else said they had stocked up on 18 (?) litres of UHT milk, then followed it up with '(yuck)'. I'm sorry but wtf is the point in stockpiling litres of stuff you don't even like? One poster even bought tinned Brussels Sprouts Envy again no envy

If Brexit means eating the most shit combinations of the lowest quality foods then Mumsnetters are winning!

PrawnOfCreation · 03/03/2019 20:19

I just grabbed these

Aibu to ask who has what in their Brexit cupboard?
Hunter037 · 03/03/2019 20:20

Do you drink goats milk because or CMPA or dairy intoleranc, or just preference?

If you're avoiding dairy, UHT vegan milks are pretty good and currently 3 for £3 at asda. Oat, hazelnut, coconut etc.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 03/03/2019 20:20

Toilet rolls and coffee.

No way Im wandering down to the woods to wipe my arse with moss.

There wont be food shortages, there will be price hikes, and food may go seasonal for a bit
