'Morning sickness' my arse!

Secretlifeofme · 03/03/2019 15:10

I am 6w 3 days pregnant and already completely fed up with feeling sick all the time. ALL THE TIME. It's 11pm here and I can't sleep because of the nausea, after a day in which I spent a total of maybe 2 hours NOT feeling sick.

AIBU to think that calling it 'Morning sickness' is a complete con?

Totally rubbish isn’t it I’m 10 weeks tomorrow and so sick of feeling sick all day and not been able to eat normally.

Gillian1980 · 03/03/2019 19:46

Yanbu.

Sympathies Flowers

I’m 27 weeks and still have all day and night “morning sickness”

I’ve not glowed or bloomed at all, same as with my first pregnancy. I’ve just concluded that pregnancy and me are not very compatible really.

Secretlifeofme · 03/03/2019 22:30

Wow, thanks for all the solidarity Grin I disappeared because I got up in the end and had a couple of rice cakes and cheese, which held off the nausea until I could go to sleep. Carby things seem to be my craving at the moment, with various salty toppings - cheese, Marmite, peanut butter. Now it's the morning and I feel sick again but planning on a ham and cheese croissant from the work canteen for breakfast, if I make it that far!

It is terrible. All day and night as you say. I had it badly in the first 12 weeks with dd (nausea not vomiting - I almost found it worse as no relief of vomiting). Then a sort of lingering "not quite right" for the rest of the pregnancy.

With ds I had sickness for 15 weeks. The disappeared completely and foods tasted normal.

Both times I could bear certain smells in particular frying onions. Wasn't much a could eat in the first 12 weeks but unfortunately the one thing I could stomach was cured meat so I had to take my chances with it.

The most annoying thing anyone could say was "have you tried ginger biscuits?"

But I agree, morning sickness is no name for!

Bubblegumgal · 03/03/2019 23:25

Yanbu it’s awful
First time I was vomiting around the clock until 13weeks
Second time very little vomiting but nausea throughout. Could not go near bread or green veg 🤢

Zerrin13 · 04/03/2019 00:17

I remember being pregnant with my son as the worst and most depressing time. The sickness and nausea was relentless and I had to be prescribed medication at 22 weeks. It stopped the vomiting but the nausea persisted untill I had given birth. I lost interest in life. When he was born it was all so worth it and 5 months later I was pregnant again!

Avacadobaby · 04/03/2019 03:40

Hugs for you OP it's awful. I had nausea and sickness for 36 weeks and an aversion to the smell of water of any kind, I could smell a glass of water from across a large room and it would make me throw up, showering was fun too Sad. The doctor did prescribe me a small white tablet which did ease it slightly but i cant remember the name of it if it continues you may be able to take something. Hope you get over the nausea hill soon, unfortunately there is very little that helps but just keep thinking about your gorgeous baby and it will help you ride it out.

Pregnancy Sickness Support=

Ferfeckssake · 04/03/2019 06:15

Oh you poor thing.Even though it was a long time ago , I will never forget how dreadful it felt.
I was vomiting from 1st week constantly until 13th week .And too weak to walk sometimes so my DH and I referred to it as " bed and bucket" .Signed off work for 5 weeks - work culture seemed kinder then.
And as I had trouble conceiving , had to keep reminding myself how much I had wanted to be pregnant.
Lived on Ribena and toast. But oh , the bliss when it passed ! And sailed through the rest and easy birth.
Flowers to you all and hope you will soon feel better and look forward to your lovely babies.

Londonmummy66 · 04/03/2019 21:58

My sympathy - it is really grim -staff at Pimlico tube got to know me really well as I'd have to get off there to throw up on my way to and from work most days.

I came to the conclusion that "morning sickness" is actually an abbreviation for Morning Noon and Night sickness.

Good luck with the pregnancy - it will seem worth it when you hold your little one for the first time.

Wallsbangers · 04/03/2019 22:32

Congratulations OP! I was sick at any point in the day or night for about 10 weeks. No nausea, I'd just suddenly know I was going to vom. Between that, the exhaustion and the bloating, early pregnancy was zero fun.

Secretlifeofme · 04/03/2019 22:32

Thanks all. It's not getting any better but I am following my carb-scoffing policy, which seems to help. I really appreciate all the support!

Oh the nausea!! I lost a stone in my first trimester due to nausea! I only actually threw up a couple of times, but I felt sick 24/7, nothing helped.
I'm now almost 35 weeks and the nausea has made a reappearance Sad
Hope it settles down soon for you op!

blackteasplease · 04/03/2019 22:42

avacado I never knew water had a small! Sounds a horrendous experience.

Witchend · 04/03/2019 23:06

Yep, 24/7 sickness it is. That feeling of waking in the night and still feeling sick.

The good-ish news is it vanished about 1hour after labour ended for me so it doesn't last for ever. even if it felt that it did

MereDintofPandiculation · 04/03/2019 23:17

My sympathy - it is really grim -staff at Pimlico tube got to know me really well as I'd have to get off there to throw up on my way to and from work most days. I don't feel so alone! I once threw up in a waste bin at Sloane Square. I think people thought I was drunk.

Imperfectsusan · 04/03/2019 23:55

You are not wrong. Eat dry baked potato over wet carbs or, god forbid, toast. Eat little and often. It won't solve it but it helps.

Brilliantidiot · 05/03/2019 03:01

I feel your pain. It should be called 'all the fucking time sickness', morning sickness brings visions of heaving over a loo a few times and then getting on with your day with a rosy glow.
Not the relentless nausea I had that only eased for an hour or so after I'd forced myself to eat something knowing fine well I'd be seeing it again very soon!
Mine eased at about 6 months, rapidly replaced by heartburn. I was a gaviscon addict, it went everywhere with me, and I would have thumped the midwife when she whipped it out of my hand while in labour had I been able to move fast enough!
And ginger biscuits is bollocks as well 🙈
Eat exactly what you fancy and when, you'll soon be just grateful to throw a lukewarm cup of tea down your throat when your little one arrives!
Congratulations, it doesn't last forever and it's all worth it in the end.

Avacadobaby · 09/03/2019 19:33

blackteasplease it doesn't normally have a smell I think it was the chlorine or something in it that I could smell but it was awful my DH had to wash me in the bath while I vomited in a bucket (he's a good one) and heaven forbid he would leave the bathroom door ajar whilst he showered. How are you feeling this week OP? Hope you have found something that helps

Raspberrytruffle · 09/03/2019 19:40

Yanbu op, I had so called morning sickness all day every day until the day I delivered both my Children. It really
Pissed me off I just wanted to be able to keep a meal down, get the DC ready or anything without running for the nearest thing usually DC potty! 😫

Graziass · 09/03/2019 21:28

vanished about 1hour after labour ended
That happened to me, amazing isn't it? Amid all the furore of giving birth I almost didn't notice that I wasn't feeling sick for the first time in 9 months.

Elizabeth2019 · 09/03/2019 21:39

It’s so not morning sickness, I was sick so many times every day I lost count! At one point, couldn’t even keep water down 😩 it ended at 20 weeks thankfully but I really fear being pregnant again despite wanting another child.

Pretty sure I was offered various medication to help, and I survived on citrus water and melon to try and keep liquid going in. Did loose 2 stone at the start, which I’ve definitely put on now !

Hope you’re feeling slightly better soon

FindPrimeLorca · 09/03/2019 21:58

In defence of the textbook model I did feel lightly nauseous from morning alarm clock until 1pm for my first 12 weeks. Fine in the afternoons and evenings. So “morning sickness” is not a total myth - although obvs there’s many many women to whom it does not apply.

This thread has reminded me of the fact that although Morrissey has done and said many many ghastly things, the one thing which really broke the camel’s back for me was when he said that Kate Middleton was obviously faking her HG because it was “too early” for her to have morning sickness. What an ignorant mansplainy twat!

Elizabeth2019 · 10/03/2019 14:43

@FindPrimeLorca 😂

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 10/03/2019 14:45

I had 24 hour sickness for the first 12 weeks on both dc but never actually vomited. Although I wished many times I would, just to have a little relief of the sickness feeling.
